A good sib or rib watertight storage box solution

Im currently using a combination of pelican cases and kayak bags for various fishing kit, emergency kit, anchor, drouge and drinks and snacks etc. .

I have now found a solution for storage of all of the above at last!

Dewalt waterproof tool boxes, these are locking stackable, you could use the ds300/ds400 for emergency kit, flares, anchor supplies etc and then use the snap on organiser box which is also waterproof for fishing kit and other small kit.

For now I have order just the DS300 which I will tread plate cover the lid for fish unhooking, cutting etc. I may add the snap on compartment case later for fishing kit, or just keep fishing kit in a tub in the DS300 depending now I rate the DS300.

I will be mounting mounts for my hand held vhf, gps, fish finder, phone holder and dive knife to the front of box.

I will either bolt the box to the sib wood floor or just secure it in with straps on the box side handles so it's removable with all the kit in!

I will post up review and my modded box when finished.

I was searching for rib bow boxes but this will be a better solution and £39 for the DS300 on eBay! I ordered a DS300 without inside tool tray for £28 as I don't need the tray, lifting it in and out of the box will result in bits dropped out of the tray

I doubt these are as waterproof as a the pelican case ie submerged for a year but I expect they are more than ok for keeping kit dry, I should think they will also float within reason (depends on the weight you load it with) if you forget to tie it in lol.

I shall retain my small pelican case for a grab box, the rest can go

A lot of possibilities with these cases, for example you could fit 12v base VHF and other electronics in the front of the case and 12v batteries inside.

Well they were salt water tested for 24 by the makers, who state they are corrosion resistant, I know what your saying I guess I will be pulling them and painting them, looks like they are spring loaded as well, If the box was 'living' on a boat then it might be a issue but for removable use I think the catches will be ok, I will be finding out!

Why not just use one large Peli? Nothing better. I'd always want the vhf attached to me and my LJ.

A good sib or rib watertight storage box solution

I have a large pelican and a small, but they are full lol, I needed a bigger solution to hold what I have plus fishing, anchor, drouge, drinks and snacks which currently take another 2 storage bags, the DS300 is around 38 litres so that should work, with spare flares, phone, plb in my small grab pelican, my vhf also lives in my jacket but if someone takes my boat out the vhf will be on a quick grab mount, or I can store it there when I take my jacket off.

We cant get in for kit cases and bags lol, I'm hoping the dewalt will be good for. . . Anchor, drouge, tool kit, first aid, fire extinguisher, fishing tackle, micro fishing rods, flares, tow line, survival bag, micro towel, beers and pork scratching lol
I'm thinking the case should keep drinks cold for a few hours, If others would like a combined cool box and storage box they could insulate the dewalt

Thanks for the link, but for survival kit I would only trust a pilican

I think that the dewalt might be better than I'm expecting in regard to watertight, I'm puzzled as to why they fitted a de pressure valve if it's only ratted ip65 (jetwash proof) I also suspect the seal could be replaced with a better one. . . . I will leave the box out in the sun to see if it pressurises. Maybe dewalt have made a ip67 tool box but are not interested in marketing it as such, I do know about this kind of kit so you can trust me to have a proper look at this. I'm not saying its good for a pelican replacement but for the money its looking good for my above storage use, this could be my all in one replacement for. . . . cool box, plastic storage boxes and kayak bags.

Just so we know what we are talking about here the IP65 test on the DeWalt box is called a water jet test but the pressure used for the jet in that rating test is just 10% the power of an average mains tap... the average £60 pressure washer jet produces 400x the pressure of the IP65 test.

The cases Jeff linked have exactly the same waterproof rating as a Peli and at half the price seem worth a look.

The pressure relief is to allow air into the box not out.

I've got a small case from solent plastics for my SIB and the quality is very impressive. I would trust it as much as Peli cases I have had in the past.

A good sib or rib watertight storage box solution

We've started talking about grab cases basically, the dewalt tool box is not going to be used as a replacement for pelican and similar cases, its for use as 40litre water tight storage box for storing general kit like anchors, tool kit and beer as oppose to using the boxes below:

Do pelican or copy cats make a 40 litre box? I guess so but it will be nowhere near £30! More like £200-£500 that's out of most people's budget and pointless to store kit worth less than £100.

Look at the link I posted.

We use these for carrying medical test equipment and we have genuine Pelican cases and there's not that much difference.

Exactly the same cases are sold through camera magazines and they're around £150 if you buy them from there.
