2nd trip in our SIB

Well, all was going ok ish, although the kids, Jazz & Tyler got stuck in the sinking mud before we even got in the boat. It all went wrong as we returned, the tide was coming in really fast and we grounded out, so Pat being Pat Smith, jumped in to tow us safely to the launch slope. He was fully clothed and up to his waist in mud. We found this rather funny.. What a mistake that was, in the chaos that then followed, whilst trying to help get the boat out the water, I fell off the launch jetty and then Tyler face planted the mud while trying to retrieve the most important item off the boat (Jasmine's phone). We then attempted to look rather dignified as we strolled past the pub full of boaty peeps, wet and covered in mud.
On the up-side, as several boaty chaps passed us, they said, "don't worry, it's happened to us all".. I wonder if they witnessed the whole 'Carry-on-Boating' episode..

As it happens we actually do have 2 in the locker, we use them for boarding, but they're there if we needed them in the worst situation.

I speak only for myself, but you won't be falling out with me - I respect a man's right to be wrong. There are 6 billion people on the planet and a few potentially lost to one man's overconfidence and lack of imagination causes me no concern. Just so long as it's not me or the people I care about, you understand..

Go you!

haha i am a strong swimmer too and take a look at who else is out there 8mph on a river i dont wear one
but on the sea or a bit of open water i wonder what would happen if a jet skier toppled you off a tube hitting your knappa on the way over, this puts everyones life in peril
i wear a bouyancy aid as i prefer it but make the family life vest up

no water is safe, and no matter how good a swimmer you are i doubt youd be a match for cold water and a running tide. youve got a great little boat there and its alway good to see people making good use of the boats they have, but do yourself and your family a favour and jacket up - i do even when kayaking in 4foot of water.
it has been said before that a person could have the attitude of 'if i drown then thats my own stupid fault, or it was meant to be' but at least a pfd of some description would allow your body to be found for your family to bury - not fair on them to be left with nothing but a feeling of emptiness, and a head full of unanswered questions.
sorry if thats a bit heavy, but its true.

no one expects to end up in a bad situation when they go boating, and am sure you have mentally assessed your "worst case scenario" and this is what you would do etc etc. The crazy thing about water and boats is their constant ability to rewrite your plans for you... Like Willk I too respect your life choices while boating, but can't help thinking that should a worst case scenario develop, someone may put their own life at risk to save you or one of your family, when you could have taken steps to manage your own safety. You don't own a yacht do you? just asking....

Great looking family... let's keep them that way and get jackets on em!

Strong swimmers or not, swimming in cold water, no doubt in shock or disorientated from ending up in the drink and the situation changes very quickly.

If your third trip out is the same minus jackets I'm personally putting you forward for a Darwin Award!

I get the whole kill cord thing but surely if jackets are available and people choose not to wear them then that's their choice?
