Vandercraft trailer fault. HELP
Hello,
Last year we purchased a whole new boat and trailer (vandercraft). Over that time 3 of the roller plastic 'locks' have broken. I have just examined the trailer and i can now see at least 5 of the clips have a crack on them ready to fall off. This is bad as the roller then falls off with the metal then smashing the rib hull. I am wondering if this is a known fault and any solutions. Its under warrenty.

I would take it back and complain as they are clearly not fit for purpose. The SBS trailers that we supply have metal locks which give many years of service.

metal clips are the way forward I would think, my roller trailer uses metal washers and split pins to hold the rollers on. HTH

If not replaceable could you drill and use washers / split pins.
Looks like there may be a hole already from the photo

I hate plastic, especially using such a load of rubbish on a vital part, cant understand why metal wasnt used. The dealer we spoke to today said he could drill in one and put a split pin as one had failed the other day. It was only when i examined the rest when i discovered most were on their way out. Im not too keen on the split pin idea though as wont it weaken the metal as its not designed for it. The thing is all vandercraft trailers have the same plastic locks so it is a range problem, not just our trailer. A dealer worker is coming in the morning so he can inspect the problem but i believe just replacing the plastic will not solve the problem. It is very frustrating!

Dealer came round today and had a look. He came to conclusion that it must have been a faulty batch so they are replacing all of them. Lets pray...

+1 don't bother with star washers there to thin will rust in no time washer and split pin way to go

What a joke supplying plastic washers. Metal star washers work great for me and have lasted years. Drilling the bar may not be possible as you will have to be at least 5 mm from the end x2 so new bars required plus drilling bar accurately is a PITA.
