The sailboat is a star class and carries the majority of its weight in the keel sitting pretty low. these rigs regularly travel 5000+km a year around europe without any issues that I have heard of. Some even carry ribcraft 4.8s this same way. I agree it looks all wrong but seems to work.

Even if it's all low down, a quick google suggests a Star class boat is only about the same weight as a smallish rib (671kg) so I would have thought the pendulum effect of the weight of the RIB so high would be pretty scary - I know what it's like carrying something heavy on a 4x4 roof rack, that's bad enough and this is about the same height. I wouldn't want to try it with the wind here anyway, towing a RIB can be bad enough!
How do they get it off? Crane?

The stars are keelboats and are craned in before and out after the event so most of the coach boats are fitted out to be lifted off on arrival. the trailers are also quite long so that would probably help with the pendulum effect. I hear ya on the wind issue. It seems that gale warnings are becoming a standard addition to the forecasts in this neck of the woods
