Trailer Wheels

Hi everyone.

I'm trying to find a spare wheel and tyre for my Indespension trailer.
5 stud, 160mm PCD (as best I can measure it) 185/R14 tyre. Towsure only sell a 5 stud in 112mm PCD, Indespension are being less than helpful as the girls answering the phone don't even know what a PCD is, and everyone else says its an odd size.
However I've established that Ford Transits use the same 5 stud 160mm stud pattern.

An odd request I know, but does anyone know where I can 'Borrow' a transit wheel for a couple of hours near portsmouth to try it on the trailer and check offsets, clearances etc before I track down and buy 3 second hand.

I'm getting desperate as the trailer came without a spare and one tyre goes down every couple of days. I'm loathe to sort the dodgy wheel out until I know I can get a spare the same.

Thanks

Nasher

I know just the chap who may be able to help you. In fact I need to speak to him tomorrow as he's just fixed my trailer.

You may need to travel to Southampton...

I'll send you a PM.

Steptoe and Son? Nahhh... Rouge is your man!!

In that case, I'll stand down 'cos Rouge Wave's your man!

Hey, whilst you're giving away Transit wheels and tyres, can I suggest you put some in Gordon's direction as he's a useful chap to know?

I offered them to Gordon as he has a collection of transits but he didn't want them. I am loathed to throw them out because they might come in handy for someone

Have you been to Indespension in Bursledon, not far from you. A27 on the way to the Hamble. They must be able to help you. Or try Hayling Trailers.

The wheels are stacked up outside the cabin door help yourself if I am not around. Whilst you are down there you can nip into Towsure and get a spare wheel bracket for a couple of quid

Thanks everyone, unfortunatly the Transit idea is a bad one as the PCD is a couple of mm out once I've measured it more accuratly and the offset is a bit much, Thanks anyway for the offer of the wheels Stuart.

I've been in touch with Hayling trailers and they can order me one cheaper than Indespension, but it'll still be £120:00, Ouch.

I need to replace the bearings, Drums(Scored, Rusty), Cables, and Shoes.
So I might replace both hubs as complete units. Or hayling trailers will supply a complete Pattern axle for about £250:00.

Try
www.trailerpartswarehouse.co.uk

I got some U bolts from them the other day. Very fast delivery.
They have 16" rims with 5 x 6" PCD listed at £ 37.80 each inc VAT & delivery.

Join the Q at Hayling trailers. They are building my new axel. This time with replaceable bearings.

If you want to try a 5 x 140mm rim I have got 2 sitting outside til I get the above axel.

How about taking a wheel down to your local ATS depot or other such place, those guys with prob know what the wheel is from.

Nick.

Instead of that as you have your hubs apart just take the hub down to the local scrap yard & fit wheels to it.

I did this & got 3 wheels & good tyres for £30.

Even got the hub caps thrown in"!"

Thanks again guys particularly the link to the trailer parts warehouse, I'll be using them in the future.

I've machined up a steel ring with exactly the same hole pattern and I'm off down the breakers in the morning to try some vans etc.

Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but just wanted to say thanks for the link to trailer parts warehouse (Autow Warehouse). Found the info by searching the forum.

My trailer wheels (10" 4"pcd, 6 ply) were pretty rusty and slowly losing air. Thought I'd get new tyres but realised it was more cost effective to replace wheels and tyres. Thought Towsure would be the place, but cheaper at Autow. Ordered on Tuesday night, arrived Thursday with free delivery.

No links with the company, just pleased with the service and price.

Silly question, but how did you get that ancient thread to come up? I keep seeing people doing it.
