Trailer swap help!!

My mate has just bought a lovely sr4 but a pig of a trailer! It's at home but is no longer safe to tow. He has a new trailer & needs to swap it!

He has no access to hoists.
We were thinking roll the boat off the back of the trailer laying tyres in under Neath the boat & then just winch it straight on the new one.

Anyone got any better ideas?

If its usless then why not take front piece of and winch straight on to new trailer. Dont fancy dropping it down. Just and idea if its going for scrap anyway.

That's a perfect idea! Can chop the old trailer as he's having it picked up and scrapped anyway

I did it once to let the boat roll from the old trailer on big Fenders at the lawn. First trim the motor up. :-)

I've had my boat on and off the trailer several times in the garden & it's a doddle if you've got space, old carpet & some decent wooden chock lumps. Here's how I do it:-
1, Put the trailer with the boat on it, exactly where you want the boat to end up when it's off the trailer, e.g. middle of lawn, move the croquet hoops first.
2, Fasten the towing eyes on the transom to an immovable object, e.g. other car, in my case eyebolts set into the floor.
3, Remove all straps holding boat to trailer (important this bit) & slowly drive the tow car forward. The boat should stay where it is & the trailer will roll out from under it.
4, Pull forward about a metre & start to chock the hull either side of the keel, using blocks & old carpet to protect the hull, repeat until boat is off trailer & sat on blocks.
5, to get the boat back onto the trailer, reverse trailer up to boat, attach winch & pull trailer under boat, removing the chocks as she goes on & voila!. Done this a few times when I've needed to work on the trailer & it really is a doddle, as long as you have plenty of room, chocks & carpet.

If it's a roller trailer that it's going onto, that ain't a problem Just unhitch the trailer from the car, fasten the winch onto the boat & wind away, the winch will pull the trailer under the boat no problem. Iv'e had to do this a few times when we used to beach launch & the weather picked up whilst we were out, usually at Beadnell. run the boat up the beach & as each wave comes in, inch the boat up the beach until your out of the surf. Hitch the winch on & pull the trailer under the boat, not the boat onto the trailer. Easy but knackering

Think We'll go for the method with most destruction as it sounds the easiest and I'll take any excuse to use an angle grinder!

Watch out for the sparks from the grinder on the hull

I've done the same with my SR4, but from one roller trailer to another, I used the trailer winch strap to pull the rib backwards off the trailer onto some rubber matting by taking the winch strap back to the swing beam, once the rib is nearly off the trailer just put the strap straight to the bow eye again, pulling it on the new trailer is straight forward on a roller trailer but I guess at bit more hard work on a bunked trailer, just take it steady it's easy enough

Or just get 8 mates round and lift it? What motor? 4 at the back 2 at the front and 2 to pull trailer out and roll new one in, 2 minutes and a slab of beers..... Local rugby team are ideal

It's an SR4... you can drop it onto something soft and pick the bow up by hand to reload it!

Straw bales rather than tyres - normally right height, easy and cheap to get hold off and easy to get rid of - and much more slippery than tyres! Simple!

I did this with with my 340 avon, 3 of us simply picked it up and carried over, 2 on the rear transform and one on the front, id imagine a couple more on a 4 metre! Top tip make sure new trailer attached to car so doesn't move around!

Just push it off the trailer it's only 4 metres long, hook the winch from the new trailer to the bow eye and pull it on, it was harder to write this post than do the job

I'm with Biffer on this one!

I've slipped my 17ft hardboat complete with 135 V6 off & on to 4 tyres a few times with no issues.

All done!! Risked it and towed it to Portland slipway & made it! Straight into the water for its first run & it won't go faster than tickover & it dies!

Shoved it on the new trailer, adjusted the bunks and rollers and it's all sorted!
