Trailer Query

Bought this rib and now need to pick it up.Been told there is no spare wheel.Need to tow it home.I have not seen it in the flesh. Can anyone recognise the trailer and give me a clue to the wheel size? Its a 2004 Humber Destroyer 5.3.presumably supplied by Humber. The trailer has been modded but that can be sorted!!!!!!Thanks!!!

Before doing a long tow I'd be more worried about carrying a new set of bearings if it's just been dunked and left wet (which is the usual fate of tractor launched safety boat trailers)

I don't think it's an Al-Ko axle on there (hub centre looks too big in that pic). I'm sure trailer guy or trailer bloke will be able to ID the trailer better than me though.

I have used this for years on horse and boat trailers as well as motorcycle tyres, prevents deflation by adding now and seals if there is a problem
Genuine Ultraseal at £19 a bottle delivered, "The Real McCoy, Not A Messy Copy" £19
Cheaper option than another tyre and wheel

Change them before you leave with it-it'll be fine with new ones in. Personally I wouldn't undertake a long tow on old, unknown bearings. If they've picked up or pitted, you'll find out fairly fast and it won't be pretty.

Re spare wheels, do the sellers know the tyre size and axle make? That's more likely to get you the correct wheel than the make of trailer.

Ah, I see.

Silly question, but why not find a trailer service centre/parts supplier local to the boat and collect new bearings and a spare wheel once you've got down to it? You might have to collect during the week to do it (most decent trailer shops seem to be closed weekends or only open til 1pm Saturday) but if you can pull the boat there, you'll be guaranteed the right parts.

Maaaaan! That's a tough call from such a far away photo!

I'm taking a punt, but the trailer looks like a modified Indespension Roller Coaster.

The wheels look like 13". Probably 4 x M12 studs on a 5.5" PCD.

Although the trailer is unbraked, it looks like they've gone for a heavier (braked) trailer, as the RIB is likely to be over 500kg - would you know? - and supplied it as an unbraked model.

This is likely because it's just being used as a launching trolley.

So....... if I was pushed I'd say it was a de-braked Indespension Roller Coaster 1.3HE, modified with docking arms and a receiving frame for the bow. Ergo, wheels would be 155R13 with 4 x M12 bolts on a 139.7mm (5.5") PCD.

Trouble with identifying bearings is I can't see if they've used a braked drum (sans brakes, backplate etc) or an unbraked hub. If it's a braked drum the bearings will be their part number ISHU0047. If it's an unbraked hub they'll likely be their part number ISHU003.

Sorry, but from that pic that's my best guess.

If I were you I'd definitely get them to tell you the info you need - you've bought a ruddy boat of them! lol All they have to do is:

Look at the side of the tyre - this will tell them the wheel size. i.e. 155R13 etc
Measure the PCD - diagonally across the studs with a steel rule
Tell you the manufacturer of the trailer - this will be on the chassis plate, located f/n/s of the drawbar

If I can help anymore feel free to post up. Good luck.

PS. Where is it?

Lol! It looked like a library pic, so wasn't sure if it was still there. Besides, I think my moustache is far more dashing than his.

I think you're being too generous - the more accurate definition would be 'sad'...

Besides, I may be wildly off the mark!

Perroboy; definitely get the information from them, I think it's the safest bet and won't be hard for them to find out for you.

I take it these people?: http://www.cleethorpesrescue.co.uk/

there's another picture of the RIB and trailer on their 'pictures' page, but the trailer looks different from the picture of the one you've posted. Obviously the frame and docking arms aren't there, but the winch post looks different and so does the roller set-up. Hmmm... definitely get more info from them!

All the best

If it's this one: 5.3 METRE RIB MADE BY HUMBER | eBay

Then it's not an Indespension trailer, it looks more like an Admiral or something similar.

I still reckon 13" wheel with 4 x M12 studs on a 139.7mm (5.5") PCD.

Can't be so sure on bearings though - may be Peak running gear. In which case Indespension part number is likely to be ISHU009.

Anyway, I'm gonna bail out now - give them a call!

ok, just one more (I can't help myself), if it's this one:

BBC - Humber - Community - Cleethopres rescue training

Then I think not an Indespesnion trailer, Peak running gear and 13" wheels as above.

Ok...................from impressive to sad.
Still mightily impressed though.
I've got a friend that does "that" to steam locomotives!
