If its plated at 900 Kgs, depending on your driving licence type, you may have to take an additional test to be legal when towing it.?

Before i bought mine i was really worried about this cos if you passed after 1997 different rules apply. i think if the trailer is plated at less that 750 kgs anyone who passed after 01/01/1997 can tow without an additional test as long as max weight doesnt go over 3500 Kgs (Car, Trailer and whatever is in the trailer)

Over 750 Kgs plated trailer or 3500 Kgs total = another test. of course this is all irrelivent if you passed before 1997.

Ill stop waffeling and get my coat!

Also heard that the DVLC have cocked up some older licences when they've been changed for address etc and not included the towing class over 750 kgs.

Course most of the new licence issues don't apply to the older and slightly older gits amoungst us.

I passed my test less than three months ago and was under the impression from my driving instructor (who had never towed a trailer and was a bit unsure about towing law) that I could tow anything that was less than half the unladen weight of the car.....

I thought that but reading the DVLA info booklet its very ambigious. i read an artical in Rib internation and called a trailer testing place and they told me about the 750 Kgs.

I fear i may have opened a can of worms here and i definalty dont know the complete answer. I have thrown the magazine away now but it was in the one before the current one.

Taking my test next month and I was under the impression that the limit on a standard U.K license (If taken after '97) is 750kg, hence my current boat. Apparently, to tow more than this you need a seperate towing license and some driving instructors will now give towing lessons!
