I’ve been pulled, got all the way from Aberdeen to within half an hour of home. Plod pulled me on the A1, didn’t prosecute, but wouldn’t let me proceed until I’d fixed the lights.

Getting everything legal is a bit of a chore, just takes a bit of careful planning and purchasing. The choice of "proper" ip68 stuff that is worth buying isn't great so I've spent hours making stuff work. I have a pair of tail lights, rubber stalks and licence plate lights that they have a bare face cheek calling waterproof, they would barely be splash proof.
Anyone considering doing this I promise you it will take 5x longer than you think and cost twice as much.
If I could turn the clock back I would have stuck led lights on a trailer board and called it good.
Went too far now so I'll plod on, when I get the poles back from galvanizing I'll post up some pics. I'm on v3 of the design now, spent quite a time mocking up.
New 4x4 is coming this weekend which is led trailer compatible so one job saved...although resistors would be cheaper :-)

So if the lights were working, but they were chuffing about light spacing etc, how did you fix it at the roadside? Not being sarcy; genuinely interested. This is the nightmare scenario. It turns out I towed to Easdale and back, and to Lough Derg and back with a non-legal trailer. So it's a "ther but for the grace of God..." type question.

It wasn’t a spacing/compliance issue that got me pulled, more of a err ummm ahem “functionality” issue[emoji57]
The number plate is fixed to the OS light cluster

For sure they ALL go wrong from time to time,but was it ...For spacing Dave? ...or light/bulb failure? ...Easy fix?
Mind you..I'd imagine it would be rather difficult to judge precise Measurements on a moving vehicle....at Night Eh

Surely the legislation only applies to trailers manufactured after 2012?
Earlier trailers will be fine with the usual old school disco light style trailor board hung on the back?
Please dont tell me they applied the rules retrospectively
