Trailer lighting board

Okay I'm an idiot and chopped my light board with the outboard. Does anyone know where I can get a blank 6ft trailer board to save me buying a new item with all the bits?
Cheers

possibly false ecomony? whole new board not that expensive and reckon it would be a right git to rewire one using existing parts, why not use a piece of marine ply paint it white, wiring would be exposed on back but at least it would be easier for future repairs.

Depending on which car you're using, LEDs might not work, be careful

Quite a few modern car indicator warning lights won't work with LED trailer lights unless you insert a resister between car and trailer wiring. LED draw such low amperage that the car doesn't recognise a trailer is connected.

What car do you tow with ?

Mister p

Depends on the Defender. My late TD5 Defender works fine with LED trailer lights.

Halfords do a very reasonable rate for a fully kitted one........I believe that you will need your log book to replace the plate though.
Or you could get stickered up from the local chandlery.

The D3 doesn't like LED trailer lights along with most Canbus equipped cars developed before the manufacturers realised LEDs were useful for trailers and caravans.

The Canbus system sends a constant signal pulse down the indicator wires to measure the resistance and decide if a trailer board is plugged in.
LEDs have very little resistance compared to the normal filament bulbs so two things happen.
The dashboard warning light doesn't illuminate and the indicators pulse constantly as the LEDs can react to the small signal voltage which isn't enough to activate filament bulbs.
On a D3 and possibly others the changes made to the air suspension settings when a trailer board is plugged in are also not activated.

As has been mentioned the Canbus system can be fooled into thinking a normal filament bulb trailer board is plugged in by putting a resistor in the indicator circuit of the trailer board to mimic the resistance of a filament bulb.

I bought a new 4ft trailer board for my jet ski the other day. I couldn't believe how cheap they are.

I just buy my plates on line. A third of the price and they are there next day if you order them early enough.

Yeah, because of idiot government legislation they are identical to the 'real' thing but called show plates but who cares!

D4's, X5's. Q7's, take your pick. I had to wire a resistor in // with the indicators on the board for the D4, otherwise you're driving down the road looking like a mobile disco

This is what you need 12 volt Ballast / Load resistor for LED indicators or fog light [401LR12] - £2.49 : LED Lights, Marker Truck LED Vehicle Lighting Trailers Commercial Lightbars Warning Lights Land Rover

Have a look at their site, quite a few items for LED light upgrades / trailer LED's

It's because they're crap. Made to as low a price as possible with precious little thought for purpose
