I have not finished the roller bunks yet so am unable to try the boat for correct weight distribustion......sorry Mollers...

Willk...your close (in that your looking at the construction of the trailer) although the back crossmenber was deliberate since there are 10 keel rollers soon to be fitted to the centre beam.

Look towards the other end!

Yep, cant believe i overlooked it but clamping up the J/Wheel is gonna be a bit of a bugger!...gonna have to fabricate a custom brace instead of the standard Knott brace.......Doh

I wondered why the aft crossmember is forward of the ends of the side rails?

I did think about doing that but was worried about weakening the drawbar...that said, its pretty well over-engineered as it is so would probably be ok....just got to wait for the 'honeymoon' period to wear off before i can bring myself to drilling big holes in the fresh galvanizing!

Downhildai, do you see that being a problem?

The boat is going to sit on a combination of keel rollers and (what i would call) roller bunks, bunks but with rollers protruding upwards and running the full length of the bunk.

Yep, that's not a uncommon set-up. Needs to be well greased otherwise, it'll twist off like a carrott.

It may well be a problem if you bash the hull against the side rails when you try getting the boat onto the trailer. If you're on a cross tide, the boat can slew sideways off the back roller and it could come into contact with the side rails.

I'd prefer to have the aft roller at the rearmost part of the trailer.

You could double-up by welding a plate over the whole and drilling through both. A bit 'overkill' perhaps and it would make a mess of the galvi.

Hmmm, i've just measured the gap between the j/wheel clamp boss and the side rail and i have just shy of 3 inches....i should be able to fabricate a hand wheel type brace to fit into the gap......failing that i have enough room just aft of the boss to add a secondary clamp which could be bracketed to the side rails using u bolts. Will try everything before i go near the galvi with my mig....

Dowhilldai...point taken, will install the bunks as far aft as possible to avoid any contact..

Thanks for all the constructive comments though, much appreciated.....although i should probably ave posted pics BEFORE going to the galvanizers!

I can let you know where the axle should be relative to the transom based on mine, if it'll help provisional set-up.

Eutectic have just brought out an MMA welding rod for galvanised steel, penetrates through the zinc without burning too much of it off and reducing spatter. So they say. Got a couple at work but I haven't tried them yet.
