I have fitted a couple of thick bungees that hold the middle of my cables higher than the ends. I guess a combination of the air having nowhere to go (and therefore not allowing as much water in) and being downhill to drain them, touch wood they are still working 7 years after I got the trailer.

This, of course will be my famous last words moment......

Brake cables are available with grease nipples fitted halfway along their length, this allows grease to be pumped into the cables to keep water out👍
