OK guys, the point was just to make a quick comparison of the prices of some roughly equivalent bits, clearly both the rusty drum and the shiny disc options would need actuators of some sort and somewhere to bolt them on!

But there's also an answer to the question, so even stainless discs can't hack it in salt water? I can see the point about tolerances being fine, made even plainer by a day spent ungumming the bike brakes (no seawater but very exposed to road salt, a winter's commuting often leaves them pretty sticky...). Guess I'd hoped something the size of a trailer brake would take it .... Oh we'll.....
