We have a hilux hl3 3.0 & I think like most pickups they make an awful tow car unless you load the back up with 3/4tonne they bounce all over with a trailer on & make for an uncomfortable ride for passengers & driver
I think towing anywhere near there max limit is dodgy unless you load the back or you get the tail wagging the dog effect
Far better to find a shogun/ landcruiser/trooper etc with proper IRS, pickups are ok If your towing a tonne occasionally but other than that your far better off with a proper full time 4x4 with IRS
25 years in the motor trade gave me an allergy to anything landrover

Bought a Navara in the end I'm afraid. 5 years old, 54k on the clock and with a hardtop on the loading area. Towed for the first time today and it seems to behave ok. We have our holiday luggage in the back but that shouldn't be a huge amount of weight. The auto certainly helped doing a hill start on a 12% ish gradient while getting on the ferry! Lots of hot clutches to be smelt from the various caravaners around us.

I'll get the timing chain done at 60k ish, to be on the safe side. But with so many on the road that can't ALL blow up?
