SR 5.4 kerb weight

All

I'm currently looking at changing my 4.5 Rimini and have seen a nice 5.4 SR with a Suzuki DT140 engine on good old ebay.

My only ceoncern is I've just had the car changed to an Astra Estate 1.7 and as yet I haven't tried to tow the current boat or the clubs 5.6 Viking.

My concern with that size enginewould be the kerb weight, with the Astra not being the heaviest car in the world and the current SR trailer being unbraked will I be legal and more importantly safe?

The Avon Searider 5.4 should only be used with a max of 90hp.

Thank you - I guess transon damage, insurance issues and stability would be an issue

Yes, and it's probably too heavy to tow on an unbraked trailer. The 5.4 is only just able to be towed on an unbraked trailer with a Yam 90 on.
If there's a lot of fuel onboard it's too heavy.

Oh, and the one in question on Ebay is for sale WITHOUT the engine.

I missed that bit.

It might be worth a look without the engine-but I'd want to view before bidding to check the transom is OK.

Given that it's on a twin axle trailer without brakes, it will almost certainly be illegal to tow it with an engine on as it's going to be over 750kg.

Thanks all

Going to wait for a 4.7 to appear. My current toy is running well and doing fine so no need to change, I think the 4.7 would be better all round for me - towing, storage, fuel etc

The good news is the wife was initially trained on a SR as well so she's happy to move over to one as well so a bonus - first time she's said - well if you want to..... when discussing boat trade ups.

I mentioned it somewhere before - my 5.4 with Yamaha 90 + appr 75l of fuel had a weight of 820kg incl the trailer ..
That was really the BLANC boat without any electrics / electronics / safety equipment / anchor + line / paddles / fire extingisher etc ...
To put a SR 5.4 on a unbraked trailer is walking on very thin ice ..

Regards Jürgen

You can do it-Doggypaddle's 5.4 is around 720kg inc trailer without fuel onboard from memory.

It's a case of getting a light trailer.

Mine is definitely over 750kg, probably closer to 900 with a full fuel load and gear onboard, but it's on a braked trailer.

If you were to tow with an Astra, it'd have to have a kerbweight of at least 1500kg before you could tow a 750kg unbraked trailer anyway.
