mk1 transom saver, it does the job but it's too beefy (40x10 flat bar). The mk2 version will be slender and elegant

that is very well thought out, and obviously very well made. is the chipboard being galvanised too? seriously though any wood used for bunks will rot eventually, i made my bunks from steel (whole thing was galv) which i then glued cord carpet onto. for added security of the carpet the ends were wrapped with duct tape.

Thanks FH, I was planning on 3/4" ply for the bunks which might need changing regularly but I can handle that. I need to read the "what carpet for my bunks thread" which I flicked through the other week.

Any bits that bolt onto it can be modified and improved at a later date. The bit I want to try and get right is anything that's welded to the main trailer as once it's galvanised that's it.

They're for rubber pads from Trailertek LINK

12" flat pads on the front and 18" for the transom supports, there's a 10mm hole on one side and a 22mm hole to get a socket on the nut.

I also used them for the mk1 transom saver.

I'd suggest going with solid lumber. Ply delaminates when it gets wet unless you take a whole lot of care to seal it.

As to carpet, it wears, and will eventually need to be replaced, but any good heavy outdoor rated carpet should do OK (outdoor rated meaning water resistant, and mold/mildew and UV treated.) [Note: Just realized you've a SIB rather than a RIB; carpet wear is likely not going to be an issue anywhere but under the transom.]
