Roller replacement

Evening all,

I have a rollercoaster trailer on which i need to replace the two keel rollers cos they aren't rotating any more. Which makes it a bugger to winch it onto the trailer.

It looks to me as if the spindle which the rubber goes onto is supposed to rotate with the rubber gripped tight to it. If so I can imagine it being a right ball-ache to get the spindle through the centre f the rubber bit. Does anyone have any tips for doing this job? I've attached pics of the offending rollers.

I'm wondering if it might be possible to do at least the rear one in situ, since otherwise it'll have to wait until we go to Ireland in August and the boat's off the trailer for a bit. Was hoping to head down to Ty Calch in July but there isn't really anywhere there to leave the boat while i fettle the trailer.

got a pic of the whole lot? You may not even need the keel rollers.

Supplimentary question:
Lets say I wanted to replace the whole shebang.
For the rear one (left hand pic) I can find the clamp, the post, and the bracket, but I can't see from these pics how you'd fix the bracket to the top of the post.

And I can't find a replacement for the front one (right hand pic) anywhere.

That's not the correct post you've linked to.

All you need there is new rollers and the spindle that they rotate on.

This is probably as close as I have at the mo.

The rear keel roller is aligned with the front set of dumbells, so I can see how you might get away without it, the keel isn't actually quite touching it when the boat is all the way on the trailer, and it's probably that which is making it difficult to winch on. The front one is definitely needed though.

I had one of those trailers a few years ago.

I think you do need them from that pic-those front dumb bells on mine had a habit of moving side to side.

That post is for if i was going to replace the lot, clamp post and all. And it's the only 30mm box section post I can see on any of the trailer sites i've tried.

As far as the spindle, can't see anywhere online that sells it without the whole bracket. Which seems a bit wasteful.

You prob won't get the spindle seperately. It's easier not to replace the bracket as well though.

I've replaced the spindles on a couple mine with stainless steel round bar off ebay. One less job for the future !
The only downside is that some rollers have a nylon sleeve inside & there are a few different sizes !!

yes, we did laugh, not seen Jeff work that hard for years, neither has his boss

our local indespension dealer has a big display of rollers / spindles etc for boat trailers, you should be able to find anything you need for that trailer. next time you go to Ty Calch, Chris will lauch you and just leave the rib on anchor while you swap the rollers over, take 10mins without the rin in the way!! if you ask him beforehand, and show him your dosh, he may even do it for you while you are out on the rib

Just out of interest Chris, who's your local dealer?

Will it be alright anchored off Ty Calch? With the amount of current that runs past there? I guess it would depend on the state of the tide?

local dealer is Port Sunlight Trailers, phone number is 0151 6454735, ask for Brian, they are very good but sometimes takes a while

yes, no problem anchored off Ty Calch, just use a good anchor and tie a land line to the blocks opposite his gate. But ask Chris before you go, just so he know's what you want to do, best not blocking the beech etc on a busy weekend
