any one know if you can buy a ratchet mechanism for tightening rope.

Jeff don't know what you're planning on doing with it but to save money could you not use 'Lorryman's Hitch?

its for my SIB boat cover just carnt get it tight enough with a hitch i had a ratchet on my RIB which worked well but before pulling the rope out and threading a strap just wondered if there was anything out there.
how did you get on with the holes in the console did you get sorted.

Hi Jeff sorry I don't have any ideas re a rope ratchet but i'm sure someone will be along. Pikey dave usually is my first port of call for these sort of things why not give him a PM.
Ah the 'holes' well this wx I havent been out much but I put a temp piece of plastic over them and I baught four yellow discs which I will probably winter, fit in the spaces it will be a nicer finish I think.

composite sheet looks good especially against yellow.

Dunno, but if it's just for stiffening a (non-stretch nylon) semi-tight rope. I'd double loop the rope and use an oversized clothes line stiffener. At least here (Canada) you can get them quite big and will take-up about 8-10" slack. Good luck.

Got the rope ratchets to day billy spot on good quality £6 each great for lashing down, the hooks are powder coated steel but can easily be replaced for s/steel.

These are a good source for shiny bits
