Nuts! Specifically trailer wheel nuts....

So while putting on my new winch strap onto the trailer I thought I would check the size of the wheel nuts to make sure brace I have fits, I tried both the 17mm and 19mm sockets and neither seemed a snug fit.... The axle is indespension 750kg rated unbraked with 4 stud hubs..... Any other size of nut used? The hubs have been replaced and what I thought was the part number doesn't come up..... Anyone come across a different size of nut? 17mm seemed closer I didn't have vernier with me and weather was getting bad so I packed up and left I'm going tomstruggle to get back to yard in daylight so any ideas appreciated.

That would make sense, particular as it means needing a seperate brace for the bloody trailer !!! Are trailer wheel nuts oversized? Ie 18mm for M10 thread?

They'll be 3/8", so an 18mm socket will fit.

Hey, the original post says that 17mm was not a snug fit, so how can an 18mm be the answer?

the op said neither 17mm or 19mm was a snug fit (maybe 17 was too small and 19 was too big) .I use an 18mm socket on mine and it works for me

I'll be honest I wa being attacked by 40mph wind and horizontal rain so I didn't spend ages trying I tried 17mm as it looked right then 19mm which was loose ( can't remember if 17mm went over the nut or not)

Sounds like I need to get a 3/8 socket

Be careful, if it is a 3/8 bolt , it can not be a 3/8 socket!

Hmmmm https://www.tridenttowing.co.uk/trai...ked-hub-p10593 wonder if it these 11/16 which is 17.5mm might explain why neither socket would fit but why on earth are we using imperial 11/16 nuts on a trailer under 10 years old?

I think this is the hub http://www.indespension.co.uk/bestse...50kg-axle.html typically no mention ofthe size of the nut!

RIBase
i have a indespention vario 600 kg 2006 wheel nuts are 21 mm slightly loose or 13/16 tight i recently changed my bearings talking to the guy it appears indespention farm their stuff out [china etc] on the cheap trailers hence the odd size of my hubs.
hope that helps.
cheers

If its a 3/8 thread then as suggested most likely 11/16 af nut imperial thread therefore imperial nut
And the 10.8 probably refers to the hardness of the stud

If 17mm was not a snug fit ie it was slack, how then using a 11/16 AF which as someone says is 17.5mm going to be better ??

Can't remember how it didn't fit just that it didn't, logic would suggest 17mm was too small.

It's an Indespension axle with what lookalike their 'wide wheel' option. Usually fitted to PWC trailers / small rib trailers. Often the JS05 / CSMINI / CSMICRO models.

The hubs are supplied by URB trailer parts (same place I buy mine). They're a 4" (101.6mm) PCD on 4 x 3/8" studs. The bearings will be the standard 1" shaft bearings.

An 18mm socket will fit the nuts. Hope that's of assistance.
