its a straightforward job, jus buy a good kit and expect it to take you a full day to do a nice job, don't rush it

the comfort department is much improved by fitting the removal kit, just update the worn out seat bases, i was lucky cos seats are still in very good nic, the later model cloth seats seem to be made to a much better spec, mine has heater pads fitted in base and back and are great

dont worry, there's a replacement stashed away, im sure tata wont let it fade away, may be a bit of a culture shock to us old'uns but if wot they have done with recent model refurbs is anything to go by its worth waiting for! all lr have been able to do for years wiv the landrover is tweak it, a "new" look at the model id loooooong overdue

i hear that the last of the current model may be worth a look at, opefully it will be a gud'un for us wot can remember wot the rr looked like when it were brand new out of the box all dem years back, wot a lovely noise that V8 made

Did you remove the bulkhead completely or use a kit? Presumably it allows the seat to recline ?

i used a kit, which reduces the height of the bulkhead enough to allow the seat to move further back and recline a fair bit but not fully. easy enough to do, just take your time, if you can use the trim bar to make a template for cutting out. i used a kit from mud, but britpart do them as well

I was always lead to believe they cost more to make than they sold them for as they are so labour intensive to build!
Also this is very old new as the demise of the Defender has been known about for years now.

LOL, thats why I only use my Defender for pottering about locally, for motorway journeys I use a VW Golf.

Perhaps the second hand prices for Defenders will go up, or perhaps more are going to be targetted by thieves for export.

I couldn't believe it when I bought some new replacement doors and they were already starting to rust. I guess that they had not learned how to prevent galvanic corrosion.

Best bit was the engine. Someone had replaced the petrol with a diesel from a Daihatsu Fourtrak.

In the end I used it as a shed.
So what vintage was this old shed you bought?
It sounds like you bought a knackered old girl and then start complaining when it goes wrong!

Literally just bought a brand new seat base for £30 on ebay with a heating element to save my bad back a bit. Part of the trouble is I get in & out a couple of hundred times a night over a 6-8 hour period when shooting & the seat bases collapse after a few months!
