I'll say one thing about my Defenders, despite all their shortcomings in the comfort department, rust ,poor electrics, poorly fitted panels & vague steering etc it's always got me home.....
I hope I'm not tempting fate !

As I understand it, it wont meet emission rules in the EU and a few other "civilised" countries. That wont apply in other parts of the world. There are already assembly lines in other countries, so I imagine the production of a basic farmers friend that doesn't have to comply with the Emission regs will carry on. Presumably the new replacement wont be a high labour vehicle to assemble, which may mean some jobs getting shed at Solihull?

I hope that they do keep at least a basic model going. Saw one today at my local garage that had jammed in diff lock (pilot error not disengaging on the road) that was classed as a tractor. Bloke runs it on red diesel on his farm, every panel dented including the roof, seats in tatters etc etc. Still looked the business at 25 years old with probably another 25 to go...
Still remember my first Range Rover in 1972 with two doors, rubber mats etc and the Chelsea tractors they've become at almost a 100,000 with pile carpets.
There'll always be a buyer for a Defender somewhere !

I have been told that some farmers have ordered a couple of them to keep in stock on the farm.

How do they manage that? they are all poor......apparently.

I wonder if the revised model will have wipers that actually stay ON the window?

I have got to admit that it wouldn't be the same if Land Rovers were not seen on British and Irish farm land. It just wouldn't look right with Jap 4x4's "Actually working" on the land.
