Many Thanks Trailer Guy

Being struggling all afternoon trying to fit some new Knott Avonride brake shoes. In the end googled YouTube video and found a fantastic video on how to do this by a Trailer Guy. First I was fitting the springs outside in, instead of inside out. Then I had fitted the short spring at the top instead of at the bottom. Had not realized there were two sizes of springs.

Thirdly and perhaps most importantly Trailer Guy suggested checked how freely the brake cable was. Mine was seized so no wonder I had problems.

Luckily as I am in France I had spare hubs with bearings, new brake pads and new cables .

I will get the old hubs replaced with new bearings and spare cables and brake pads ready for the future.

What is worrying is that the Snipe trailer is only two years old with flushing kit and yet already the brake shoes have rusted off.

if you flush correctly you can extend the life of the shoes by maybe a season but in my experience it isn't much more.

i've just got rid of a 1 year old SBS 1800el and i think the shoes were failing as i could hear them occasionally i think. i "upgraded" to a 4 wheel 2600el so i can't confirm 100% the shoes had gone but it was making the noise like they were sometimes.

The best you can do is never dunk when warm and flush as soon as you launch/recover and always take the trailer for a drive to warm/dry the brakes up ASAP.

Well, you guys are too kind, thank you! 👍

I think it's pointless having all that info and keeping it to myself.

I've been meaning to make a few more vids, but as I work alone it can be difficult 😄

Hope everyone's enjoying the season so far!

Ben - I had a quick look, but my Google Foo wasn't finding them... have you got a link to your Youtube "channel"?

Hey Poly, no probs:

https://m.youtube.com/user/TrailerGuy1000

I have no idea about my music 'likes' on the page though... I have a suspicion my teenage daughter may have been on there. Wiz Khalifa and Alvin & The Chipmunks...?...

Oh I dunno? "A wee girl did it and ran away!" seems like an original and credible account to me...
