Got a call from a chap, "my wheel's fallen off". Not an unusual thing for me to hear, however, when he said he'd had it serviced the day before, my interest was very much piqued...

On arrival, both bearings were shot and the shoes fried on one side. Spot the deliberate mistake...

Prize goes to Muz

In the same drum, one shoe was 40mm wide (203x40) and the other was 50mm wide (200x50).

Ergo, even if you adjusted the brakes right off they would still drag against the drum face. In fact, the drum would be hard to put on in the first instance. All that brake drag means friction, which means heat, which means grease cooked out of an already failing bearing, which means we get the resultant "my wheel's fallen off" call...

You should see the stub axle, I'm surprised I got a bearing seated on it!

As much as I appreciate the business, shoddy workmanship really peeves me. It gives the rest of us a bad name!
