Indespension or Nicholson

Looking to buy a new trailer Indespension rollercoaster 9 nearly £3000 and 3 week waiting or Nicholson equivalent for £2400 10 day wait anyone got a Nicholson trailer what's your thoughts.Cheers Steven

Give Extreme a call. They've sometimes got some cracking deals and their trailers are every bit as good as Indespension's .

I had a look at extreme trailers ruled them out because they use alko axles with pressed in sealed bearings I'm looking for a trailer with tapered stub axles .

Have you tried speaking to extreme and asking if they can offer a different axle option?
I enquired about a pair of replacement axles for a goods trailer recently and was offered the choice of sealed or tapered
Like you I'd prefer tapered as all sealed means is you can't get in to grease them or repack them .The sealed for life bit doesn't stop the water getting in

DeGraaff also use taper bearing axles (think it's either Peak or Knott/Avonride). Dan's a good chap and makes a substantial trailer.

I have a Nicholson 1300kg roller and it seems very well built. I've had to replace the brake cables after 2 years but other than that no issues. Came with bearing savers and the galv is still nice and bright. I considered an extreme but delivery on a 1300kg one was ridiculous and would have taken me 2-3 days to collect. Nicholson are up our end of the country so much better for collection and warranty (if needed). I'd get another without hesitation.

I've just put a deposit down on a new Indespension rc9 phoned the nearest branch to me in Glasgow and they did me a good deal only down side is the three week waiting time.

Are you impressed by the way Degraff fasten the axles to the trailers I think it's a bit flimsy? As you know I have genuine respect for your knowledge and would be interested in your views.

Belated congrats on the trailer purchase. I'd have bought an Indespension if I could have found a suitable second hand one. I ended up with a second hand de Graaff trailer that I tow my Pacific 22 around on and I've no issues with it at all.

I suspect the key thing to happy trailer ownership is a) setting it up correctly for your boat / towing vehicle and b) looking after it.

I've got an Extreme 1500. Just done the bearings......taper roller. (Paid £2000 for it new at the beginning of the year).

There seems to be too much weight at the rear of the trailer ... should I weight up the nose to make it safer?

Your car manual will have a maximum nose weight on the tow ball. You want to be under this, but not way under it.

You can add weight either by moving stuff around (spare wheel, spare fuel, Aux engine are probably easiest). you can move the boat forward (often just moving the winch post - but beware that might stop you accessing the boot, or mean you need to look at the rollers too) or the biggest job, move the axel back.
