I fitted a Towtrust TL1 after researching what was available. Very neat & compact & doesn't compromise the departure angle of the Disco. The list price is about £400, but my local supplier got me one for less than half of that. Fitted it myself, took about an hour. No drilling or cutting required. It's a world away from the detachable OEM one. I contacted land rover after the recall & eventually got a full refund in the cost of the towbar. Result👍

I also went for a Towtrust TL1, bought online for £194. As Pikey says, very straightforward to fit and looks really neat when not towing. Another plus point that may or may not be useful is because of the design, it allows you to use attachments designed for fixed bars (bike carrier in my case) that you canít fit to most detachable models. If I was buying again Iíd get exactly the same thing.

I have a crag hopper jacket that iv had for about 5 years and it still keeps the worst of downpours out in fact I would say after having quite a few other waterproof jackets its still the best waterproof and warmest jacket iv ever owned

I'm still wearing 10yr old craghopper strides, but the modern ones are rubbish, they've changed the material & "outsourced" the manufacturing. The quality now is poor.

if you're only towing occasionally like I do, then the detachable is fine, the problems with wear were caused by leaving the detachable bar fitted all of the time, but if you're towing regularly then go for the fixed 👍

I have a Disco 3, which uses same towbar as Disco 4. I went for the permanent Land Rover Heavy Duty one, and had it fitted since the car was new. Frankly, the towbar helps when reversing, as it protects your car from impact. Doesn't spoil the look of the car either. With that, I don't see the point of detachable tow bars.

maybe in the minority but some do like to take their disco off road, detachable towbars help ground clearance

Sure but they don't really impact the departure angle that much. On paper they do, but in reality its the opposite.
