Good job he had those poles on there to keep everything straight .. I wonder if there is much damage to the boat

Trailer came off towball?

I must admit I've never been a great fan of 50mm towballs, not sure why as I have never lost a trailer ... it just doesn't seem inherently secure compared to a NATO jaw with a locking mechanism AND a big locking pin through it. The one on my Ifor Williams seems pretty solid but the locking clamp on some smaller trailer hitches is really weedy looking. I hope the SBS one is decent.

So has mine which is a 2600 twin axle, but the hitch is still only pressed steel. Not a good a good old fashioned cast 'un. Just beware that when you put the hitch onto the towball it sits down properly & the hitch handle goes fully down, i didn't, just the once

The pressed steel ones are the ones that usually worry me (not SBS - just as a general observation).

The Ifor one is cast though I can't remember what make it is. If I don't like the one on there it will go in the bin and I'll fit an Ifor one (or a NATO eye... for when the trailer brakes eventually seize up and get Bennyized )

The new ones are cast on the bigger trailers, it is on my 1800EL.

~Sorry, couldn't resist....

Maybe they recently switched over, hard to tell on the pic from the SBS website but looks like the 2600 twin axle has the same Bradley hitch... The parts list shows Alko and Bradley...

I haven't got any experience of NATO or pin and eye hitches but I've heard that they bang a lot.

Any truth?

Chris

Can't say I have used a civvy pin and eye coupling but the NATO is a bit clonky - I have a Sankey army 3/4 ton trailer and it's "always noticeable"
