All you have to do is look at the maximum braked towing weight of your car and if the weight of the trailer and its load is less than this then you can tow it. However if for example your car weighs 1300kg unladen and it can tow 1600kg then it's generally not a good idea to put a 1600kg trailer on the back when the car is empty, you need to add some ballast to the car to even it out because the trailer is always going to try and push the car off the road when you brake or corner.

If thats the case you must have to add some weight to a lot of the 4x4's on the road then !
