I guess from your post that "DIY" is not an option.

I guess if you are in Worthing then the chances are if you go inland a bit you can find an "Agri trailer" shop. Granted they may look at the boat in a strange way, but EU approved brakes are EU approved brakes whether they are stopping a rib or a cattle trailer.

I got mine done at a local Ifor Williams dealer (lack of time to do it myself at the moment) for a LOT less than that.........

I say that of course assuming your trailer axle isn't now up on bricks in their workshop

I may be able to arrange keeping my boat in the water for 3 weeks and would be willing to lend you our trailer (single axle, braked, 6m RIB) if you agree the following:

1. pay mooring costs for my boat for 3 weeks (not sure how much that will be but will find out and let you know if okay in principle)

2. £500 deposit on trailer against return in good condition - you would be responsible for any repairs during your trip and (if needed) on redelivery.

I'm based in South Bucks and office in Chertsey.

All of the parts for nearly all trailers are available off the shelf for next day delivery from the likes of Western Towing.

Bearings and back seals are in stock at my local bearing trader for about £50 - £60 an axle set

If you really get stuck, and could get it over to me, let me know and I'll do the bearings, seals and brakes for you Friday afternoon for a beer or two. You can watch me do it too so you can see how easy it will be to save yourself over half that bill next time. I'm between Waterlooville and Petersfield.

Nashers Right

It doesn't take long to change brakes and bearings. I can do it in a 5 hours or so and I'm allergic to spanners. The parts from most UK trailers are available from stock from specialist trailer places such as trailer tek or trailers and towing the parts shouldn't be costing you more than 250.

I'd take up Nashers offer He's very good so is Betajim

If they are sealed bearings I have a complete set of huns bearings and brakes which you can borrow if you need to.

Trailer hire try South coast trailer trailers and towing

Before you splash out on new bearings, brake shoes, drums?, etc., it may be worth pricing a replacement axle. This would come with all new brake parts, even the Bowden cables and would save you a lot in labour (I don't know how thirsty Nasher would be after an afternoon of battling with your brakes )

Now that's my problem in life in a nutshell. I only think tactically and not strategically.

I can do a very good deal on a new axle as I now have a contact again at the company that makes them for most of the retailers.

If you look hard enough an axle set of Bearings, seals, brakeshoes and Bowden cables is @£140, so unless the stub axles are shot it's normally more economic to repair.

Merlin
Just let me know when you'd like to do it, I'd be happy to help. Oh and by the way, I fall over after a couple of Guinesses these days, but can drink tea by the gallon

Agreed

But, if Merlin's not too hot with the spanners and has to pay someone to do it, then the labour cost of fitting a replacement axle would be a lot less than that of stripping down and rebuilding both hubs and may therefore be a more economic option. On the other hand, as Nasher has confessed he's not feeling too thirsty at the moment, I reckon Merlin may do alright with replacing the shoes, cables, bearings, etc.

dixon bate do trailers with disc brakes here.
I would really like to get one of their axles to fit on my trailer, but they only sell complete trailers.
