That bracing mod has only got strength in tension. Any compression force (i.e) the problem you originally had with the drawbar buckling upwards) and the two plates will just buckle outwards or inwards.

Same one as before, the Kia. Plenty Good for short trips, might need something bigger for the longer ones.

So the boat would be 1550kg approx with a full tank of fuel and no aux or spare fuel, which is more than I was expecting more than I was expecting

So I recon a 1400kg load or 1800kg gross will be fine for my smaller RIB. Off to De Graaff tomorrow morning to see their wares. Was a little dissapointed with the Indespension rollercoaster as it's a very similar design than my existing trailer, but is only rated at 1300kgs. Cost was a bit higher than I was expecting too.

But you've nearly cured it.. 4 welded flanges, 4 bolts and a drill would leave you some change for a beer though

.. mind you a new shiny trailer cures all in one stroke, and would at least be heavier from word go.

Thanks for the links Neil, the heaviest single axle one is only 1150kg's capacity though.

If you go new consider De Graff.

My (ex) Humber 6.3 weighed 1285kg all up, now that was as follows:
boat +wide console +4 jockeys seat Aframe.
Suzuki 115 +4Hp Aux.
Fully fuelled 150L
anchor chain flares etc etc.

When I got it it wa on a Humber supplied Bramber trailer rated at 1250kg all up!

I'm noticing a trend for this across a couple of forums-it seems that some dealers are seriously underestimating the trailer size needed.

One in particular has been reported as selling a boat/trailer combination without engine that has less weight available to fit an engine (this is sans fuel and gear too

) than the max transom weight for the boat. This is very poor indeed.

After visiting Aurther at De Graaff today, I've paid a deposit on a 1800/2 and specified a heavy duty drawbar

This should be ready in 10 days so will miss RIBEX this year

I was looking at a frame that was setup on the welding jig and was very impressed by it. A much heavier construction! The spare wheel was expensive but being 5 stud, does look the buiss!

Can't wait to get out boating again

Are you sure that's big enough? what does the trailer weigh, I’d of been tempted to put the existing rig on a weigh bridge first

It was an eye opener for me when I did mine

Chris's Vipermax 6.5 is on an 1800kg trailer, that's a bigger RIB than mine with a much heavier engine.

The Admiral towed fantasicly well and always felt stable. In critisizm I would say it was a little bouncy sometimes, but I put that down to the drawbar being long and possibly the tyres being a little close to the limit, which they will be on a single axle.

The De Graaff is such a more beefier design with welded cross bracing and all, the side frames are stronger and come much futher forward than the Admiral does so shouldn't pose a problem.
