Bearing Catastrophe

Another one to add to the Mollers list of calamitous cock-ups.

Last time out with the VM I detected a touch of bearing rumble. About time for a new set me thinks. £100 later, I have a bag full of Timko's finest. Dan who works with me is a highly qualified Merc Tech,he fits the lot.

As I've somehow managed to have missed this summer, I promised Mrs M and the youngest of the brood a day out with lunch on the beach as the forecast was fair.
Off I goes, trailer running as sweet as, half a mile from the slip I detect resistance coming from the trailer. I then start to here rumbling, I pull over. To my horror, all four bearings had collapsed!
One wheel was all but off. Shit, what do I do? I sat Mrs M in the back of the truck and told here to keep an eye on the wheels, slowly I proceed. On entering the dinghy park the rear N/S came off. On backing into the water, the rear O/S came off, two wheels left on my wagon.

I parked the sorry looking trailer and had a pleasant day out. Just had a call from Dan who had inspected the trailer, "Ah, sorry mate, I think that I may've put the outer bearings in the wrong way around."

Guess what Dan is doing tomorrow?

Could have been a lot worse, especially if you'd been hoofing down the motorway. The fact you got it in the water is a bonus!

Oooh, cashing that willkheque for £200 I should imagine - which is the £300 as agreed minus the £100 on account of how you made it to the water....

Ouch!

If it makes you feel any better, I had to be low loadered back from Fowey 6 weeks ago when the recently serviced trailer's brake linings decided to fall off.

It's the last time anyone else gets to service my trailer.

Same here do mine myself now got some advice off TG & Hadd and its easy, I strip it down twice a year taking cables off to run some oil through and check bearings
And it's also good to know how to do it as I had to change a bearing on the way back from Italy as a precaution as one was running hot

I've ferked about with my own trailers for years, but not any more, 'cause I'm gettin' on in the world, comin' up on forty-nine years, forty-nine stoney grey steps towards the grave, you know the box awaits it's grissly load
Now, I'm gonna be food for worms and just like Charles Mingus wrote
That beautiful piece-a music, 'Epitaph for Eric Dolphy'

So is it dyslexia, dementia or Alzheimer's your suffering from?

Clue: 49 + 1

I'm just of to check the gasket Dan fitted on the sender unit for me

Bad news. The bearing stop groove has been ground out of two of the hubs. £120 per hub inc bearings.

On the upside, the weather is amazing, the tides big and the boat is stuck in the marina. F&Cs tied up in Customs House inner harbour this eve, the tide was so high, we were level with the pub tables. A bit of forced holiday never did a chap any harm., the sun nipped the old chest and ankles today.
