Searched on car folio and it states kerb weight is 1942kg

Not really if what I've learned from this thread! I passed in 98 so know it's 3500kg
If kerb weight of navara is from 3 sites all stating 1994kg
My trailer plated at 1200kg
Then that's 3194kg
Leaves 665kg spare
Am I on right track lads ????

No! It is the plated Gross Weight which is important, not the Kerb Weight. The Gross Weight of your Navara will be in the 2750kg - 3500kg band so you can only tow a trailer with a Gross Weight of upto 750kg on your licence. If your trailer is plated at 1200kg, you will have to take the test.

Not correct. You firstly need to know the MAM/Gross Weight of the towing vehicle. If this is 2750kg or over (as it will be in this case) then you are limited to a trailer with a gross weight of upto 750kg. Only if the gross weight of the towing vehicle was below 2750kg do you need to know the kerb weight, as you may then be able to tow a heavier trailer provided the gross weight of towing vehicle + gross weight of trailer combined do not exceed 3500kg and the gross weight of trailer does not exceed the kerb weight of towing vehicle.

FWIW, if that's a 4.5m rib, it probably doesn't need a trailer with a MAM of over 750kg.

If the trailer with the boat on is below 750kg, and given that it's an older trailer and what Gramas said earlier that implied it has no legible MAM plate on it, it might be worth locking off the hitch damper, removing the brakes and riveting a '750kg' plate to it?

Would I not be found out nos? Need to check when I get home in 3 weeks, could always call hallmark up ask if they have new plate as me old one (750) fell off haha

Jeff, I think that is a very quick negative and wrong post.

Kerbweight of vehicle + Mam of trailer under 3500kg and car is heavier that's how it rolls... I was properly checked by dvla and I have a defender.

So you could also be in a vehicle (kerbweight which is unladen weight) of 3500kg and still tow a trailer of 750kg giving u a train mam of 4250kg !

It would effectively make it a 750kg trailer-so you couldn't exceed 750kg with it. Without brakes, it couldn't legally go over 750kg on the road anyway.

If there's no weight plate or serial number on it, who knows what it was originally plated at? An old model number means nothing.

So as my nav is 1994kg unladen
Mam on trailer potentially 1200kg mam
1994kg+1200kg = 3194kg
That's within the law of 3500kg mam
Heads battered now haha

Yes. However....


MAM=Maximum Authorised Mass. MAM is NOT kerbweight.At no point does the directgov link you posted refer to kerbweight.

If you're in a vehicle with a kerbweight of 3500kg, it'll have a MAM of over 3500kg unless it has a payload of zero kg. You'd need a class C1 licence to drive it, and C1E licence to tow a trailer with it.

My trailer if 1200kg is over the 750kg mam
But!!!
The unladen weight is 1994kg
So I'm under the 3500kg mam

Lol. It's on many websites.

Kerb weight vehicle. Mam of trailer. Ive even copied it from the gov website.

G, your right. If those are the right plate weights and you have got them from Nissan and hallmark as well as on the trailer and it is braked.

Nos your right but the vehicle is not MAM. it's unladen weight / Kerb weight for the vehicle and MAM for the trailer.
