How TF can you pay £2k for a towbar?!!

From memory, a LR Discovery genuine HD tow pack is around £600 fitted. That's not the soppy plug-in, it's the full nine yards of solid engineering.

How can any company justify £2k?

OK, vid is viewable now. . That's just weird.

Got mine for the D4 from here paid £169 for it from my local dealer & fitted it myself in about 45min. Very happy, it's neat & compact & more ground clearance than the LR model. I'm about to get a refund from LR for the cost of it, due to the problems with the detachable LR model which is a POS!

Back to the cost thing.....

Firstly, the original thread is now 4 years old. A LOT has changed in vehicle electrical architecture in that time. Fitting the bar has arguably become easier as any bar needs to be signed off to EC crash etc and generally bolts on in place of the rear cross member - simples. some can even be done without removing the bumper!

I did a bog standard Mondeo a couple of years ago..... Dealer fitted a "dedicated" (aye, b*ll*x) Mondeo bar & kit for £250. Most places looking for around £700

After taking delivery I then spent a further £300 odd replacing the bypass electrics cr@p with a Westfalia CAN talking 'leccy Kit. (which needed the Car poked electronically to wake the module up & make sure it was talking to the ABS etc......

With cheap "fits all " electrics kits the thing you will notice is your park sensors go nuts because the trailer is so close! As already said, what you can't see is the ABS / stability etc modules mdifying their response....or not as the case may be....

So yes, you can get it done for a couple of hundered, but be well aware of what you are actually paying for!
