Anyone got any views on the Q7's ?

The gear box in the TDV8 RR is all new. ZF 6 speed unit. Dont worry too much about it being a 3.6. It's got enough torque to pull a house down

Had three days with a Q7 recently. We had an 07/07 traded in against a new RRS TDV8. Very impressive array of toys inside. Bit like the flight deck of starship enterprise. But it really didnt like the rocks on our mini offroad course at the dealership.

I think it boils down to what is going to make you happy. Thing is with LR they will openly admit that they make "built for purpose 4x4's" It just happens that the current breed of LR product is very good on the road.

This thread could rumble on for ever. What ever you choose, enjoy it.

I know a chap that had an X5, swapped it for an RR Sport. After a month he chucked the RR back at the dealer and bought another X5. Apparently the Toureg is on a par with the X5 on tarmac.

And of course with the low ratio box, trick diffs and all the other clever bits of kit is significantly better off road. Stick some HR rated General Grabbers or BFGs on it and it's just about the perfect allround car.

You also have the option of serious badge snobbery and buying it as a Porsche as well.

You'll struggle to find more torque than the V10 TD in the Touareg.

Well I dont really need to go off road much, I have works 4x4s that I do all that with,.. and btw dirt devils are the ones . Yes most 4x4's are much more impressive when tyred correctly.. Chopped V8 Rangies and suzuki SJ's are the ones to beat, imo. I have no 747's to tow either , but I did sit in a VW a year or so ago but I found it too small in many respects. Seems to be a bit of a shortage of SC 4.2 Rangies though.. seems everyone is going for the diesels now, poor consumption and lack of green credentials must be stiffelling demand, you'd think they'ed be falling over themselves to sell big petrols then, but not so .. I guesse a lot are built to order these days so dealers wont be sitting with unshiftable stock. Forgot how pricey the Rangies are I can get a top spec M-tech 4.8 beemer for 15k less

So actually you don't need one at all and should be looking at proper cars instead of a Chelsea tractor?! Mind you we should have guessed that when you said you were looking at Merc GL and X5s!
