Fair enough comment, it won't stop those drivers, but there will be ongoing research into software that recognises the make and model and colour of a car and cross refrences it to the DVLA database in conjunction with ANPR so unless the false plates are on an identical car that will catch them out,

I really think youre crediting some of these uninsured drivers with too much inteligence, lets face it theres probably a rather skint postman in portsmouth driving around in an uninsured car because all his money was scammed off him, wouldnt even think of changing the plates

and he wont be the only one

I think you'll find it's also not true about the £30.

The quoted £30 is I believe what's paid by your insurance company into the Motor Insurers Bureau.I'd bet you'll find that won't change if there's no uninsured drivers.

But it negates the argument of it costing you 30 quid if it's going to cost you 30 quid anyway.

Wouldnt be ironic though if the time you realise you cant keep your paper in order is when you get fined for no insurance

Correct, I was restoring an old vintage tractor, and didnt renew the licence as it was in my workshop for over 2 years..... in bits, then I got fined automagicly

Best thing is .. the vintage tax disc is free anyway

Exactly.

Funnily enough, when we forgot to renew a sorn document because some stuff was lost during a move 3 months before-even though we updated vehicle documents-DVLA didn't send a sorn reminder even though when SORN was first set up it was promised. They decided to send a fine as first contact and bleated on about how it wasn't their legal responsibility to send reminders.

Wait til they start issuing 6 points automatically along with the fine and tell you that they don't have any legal duty to remind you...

I agree entirely but it does sound a bit like another stealth tax on innocent victims if it was a serious attempt to rid the roads of uninsured drivers then it would be acceptable. The report was in the Torygraph

i got done for failing to renew a sorn, but when i blew up about it they said that they didn't need to send reminders, when i pionted out that i have an old car, van and tractor that haven't been sorned for 10 years they said those didn't count, what the f!"$^ going on do they make it up as they go along
