A quick Google around shows that a 7.5t Iveco Eurocargo chassis cab has a kerb weight of about 3000Kg, so by the time it's got a body on I'd guess that Nos isn't far off the mark.

Most of them actually-it depends what length body and cab is on them and if there's a tail lift or not.They range from 3 tonnes to 5.5. AFAIK the MAN is the heaviest (but also one of the most comfortable) Obviously sleeper cabs weigh more. A curtainside body can be further lightened by judicious use of an angle grinder and conversion to a flatbed.

Of all of them, the Isuzu 7.5 tonner is the lightest but a pig to drive.

I don't think anyone makes a 4x4 7.5 tonner. The extra weight would make it useless for carrying much of a load.

Yeh. I've been down this road and when I asked you about the weight of 7.5 tonners, I'd forgotten about the need for 4 wheel drive.

I almost bought this a while back but it turned out I could pull more weight with a Disco.

I worked with the REME a few years ago and could tell you a few stories about those Renaults!

Bottom line is they were used as part of the competetive tendering process to drive costs down, and a number were ordered as "sweeteners" once the deal was once again awarded to LDV.

The chassis on those vehicles needed a number of strategically placed shims to make them drive in a straight line.

That Renault is a Dodge. But you're right, they did have problems.

It is an RB44 based on a Dodge50. They were put together by Reynolds-Boughton, hence RB. Dana Axles and Perkins engine. There was a very similar vehicle though based on a Renault.

Yeh, I'm a member of the Dodge50 club but I'm not aware of the Renault/RB44 connection. I've also spoken at length to Reynolds-Boughton about the RB44, where the various parts were sourced, fixes for problems etc. and there was no mention of Renault. However, there was a link between Renault and Dodge so I suppose that indirectly links to the RB44. There does appear to be a more direct link with the RB75 but I know very little about that vehicle.

Richard B, I've done a bit of homework and it seems that we're both correct. Dodge was part of the old Rootes Group (Hillman, Humber, Commer etc.) which became Chrysler UK and later moved to Peugeot Talbot. I can remember this happening cos at that time I owned a Hillman Hunter. During this time the Dodge 50 was born and was based on the American Tradesman truck built by Dodge in the USA. but a few years later Peugeot Talbot sold the truck division to Renault. So the Dodge 50 has had a few names attached to it in its life and latterly is was marketed as a Renault.

1) RB's are shite... period. Walk away...
2) MY Leyland Daf is 4X4 but is 11,600 MAM
3) MkK/MJ are also around 11,000 MAM unless they've been down plated.
4) Merc do a lovely 4X4 7.490 MAM truck.. but be prepared to pay for it...
