I have considered them but my sister in law had one and she had some problems with it. I will add that the problems were laid at the mechanics door.

I've no personal experience of them but they seem to get good enough reviews where it counts - 4x4 ability. The Renault engine wouldn't faze me - IIRC it was cars they had issues building, not engines?

I'd avoid Land Rover products, IIWY, as they've thrown their car keys into waaaay to many fruit bowls over the past 15 years and the local dealer network deserve to be given a life sentence driving a Defender...

The road tax appears to be similar between the 2 years. The commercial ones only have 2 seats and I still need 4 seats for everyday use. You have understood the need as well for a small package as local roads can be interesting to drive on to say the least.

I can recommend a nissan xtrail, pulled my 2000kg rig about for last 18 months, only changing it to get an auto now (xc90). It will genuinely do 50mpg on a run and very high 20s when towing. I tend to keep it spooled up so burn more than I would with a lighter boat.
Hi
I am tempted by them especially with the economy figures, but road tax is 950.

On second thoughts, probably better off sticking to your Volvo, might want to browse this first😏

Lions led by donkeys

Aye and the Volvo auto boxes get to hot when towing 😁 but they don't mention that when your buying one

if you order an xc90 with the factory tow bar pack you get an additional auto box rad from what i have read. I know mines has a factory bar on it but i don't know yet if it has the additional cooler, if not it is 150 quid for it so i will probably shove it on there.

the xc90 is very under spec'd towing as they have allowed for 500kg of rubbish in the car if you factor in the GTW of the whole thing so shouldn't be an issue....anyways, time will tell!

to the OP- i don't know your tax laws in ireland but i feel for ye buddy. as you are only towing 1300kg occasionally then i would get the vitara if you like it and it is in your budget. if you do tow reasonably often maybe get an auto if the 2000k tow limit still is the limit with an auto (autos are usually less in most cars)

I've had three Suzuki's a 410 , 413 & a Vitara & my partner had a 2 litre Grand Vitara never had any real problems with the Vitara's but the oil needs to be changed regularly on all of them

The 2 litre petrol likes to drink

So why buy a tow car that ain't any good for towing unless you start adding oil coolers and reprogramming ecu
A Land Rover can tow from the factory 😂
