Insa Turbo special tracks are similar to the Green Anacondas I used to use, The Greenways ripped the snow out back down to tarmac. Would think the Special tracks would be similar.

I've been looking at those, they would be the ones but I've got a range rover 3 so I need 18" and there's not many MT's around in 18"

Wish I still had my series 3 lightweight sometimes

You mean what car or what rims? Range rover '02 (first of the new type), haven't bought any rims yet, wanted some tough as old boots steel rims but n/a in 18". I believe that's minimum diameter to fit the car. It's got 20" sport rims at the mo

It must be pretty soft snow for any MT to "rip it down to tarmac" - unless they have studs fitted any tyres I have ever owned will just polish up a nice icy surface!

The snow had been compacted a bit by a few cars going over it, the tread just went straight through it.

Yep, and I can't express how pleased I am with them.

They are no noisier on dry or wet roads than the worn out Scorpians I took off, but have proved really good on the snow and ice, plus before on wet grass and muddy tracks.

These images show the tread pattern and how it follows round onto the wall, which I'm sure is helping in the snow etc.

I used to be indecisive.....but now I just don't know! I have just got a good deal on a set of General Grabber AT2's (apparently they have just revised the pattern, these are old stock /old pattern, so like the budgie...... )

Bogmonsters recommendation was backed up by a friend with a Quadradrive WJ who has found them good all rounders, his WJ is now off the road and spends its life as a workhorse on his static caravan site (its duties include moving the statics!).....have also read good things about them on icey roads....

Sorry to chop and change....great advice here as usual! Seems to have been a pretty popular thread too....some interesting stuff!

I reckon that's a good choice. They're a proper all-terrain tyre and will probably suit you much better than a mud tyre.

I think I was getting seduced by the 'nobbles'

Had a set of mudpluggers on my first series LR when I was 17....They drowned out almost every other rattle and knock at anything above 45 mph! I thought they looked great though...

Heres one of my old Suzies coming over the top with a set of grizzly claws fitted .. dont think the tyre is available anymore, but with these on, it would go virtually anywhere ... conversation inside above 45 mph was best described as difficult

On snow .. it drove like it was on tarmac

Yuk - don't like those as much as the old AT2 I'm afraid

They look as if they should be good in snow but not sure about off road - the old pattern were the best AT's I've seen, better than BFGs.

Never mind - I've just bought a new set of AT2s for the Ranger to keep in the garage so should be alright for a year or so yet

They appear to be branded just as ATs, and I believe they are phasing out the AT2s

From the reports I’ve read I’d like to have tried the AT2s, but unfortunately the don’t do them in a 19’ rim, I even considered getting some 18’ rims but I’m planning a bigger brake upgrade and need the space in the wheels.

Had to dig the Disco out today. Took the kids up onto Dartmoor today, for a spot of skiing/boarding. Ended-up on a narrow lane with 10" deep semi compacted snow. Stopped for a 'which way' conference on an uphill 'T' junction. That was it. I dialled up all that the Disco had to offer, no go. Luckily the boys had packed their avalanche shovels.
More aggresive tyres required.

A couple of bags of fine gravel are proving to be more useful here that all the other offroad recovery gear I carry. And I carry a LOT of that stuff...

Keeping it unfrozen is the problem.

At night the buckets sit on the underfloor heated flags in my hall and wear a little lagging jacket when in the 110 during the day. At -12C, gravel in buckets quickly becomes bucket shaped gravel-lumps...
