Over here in the Great White North, anyone I know drives a full size truck for towing. My own vehicle is a 5.3 l V8 GMC Yukon. It pulls my Hurricane beautifully, even at 120 kph+ on the major freeways... Pass everything but a gas station as they say! Our fuel is about .80/litre at the moment... about half of what it is in the UK I imagine, if not less than that.
I had a V6 in an Isuzu a couple of trucks ago and after blowing three sets of rings in two summers, I ditched it...
My discovery doesn't do too bad. Only a 2.5 turbodiesel but loads of low down grunt - the Defender has a 4.6V8 so is even better!!!
