Just over 9 k new in 1989 and 18 years later would still fetch the same amount .Very tall 1st gear = 82mph , Finding rubber for them is a pain as well .

Yeah, a few geared them down. His is an '89 on an 'F'. I remenber it being huge money at the time. I was running about on a RD500 Marlboro wich looked a bit tame next to the RC.

Both interesting and rare , even the rd500 , that was a beast . Wish I had kept my 350 lc out of all of the bikes I had in the 80's

I used to have an ns400r bored to 500 by either terry shepherd - or the other guy, who's name I can't remember. Had various other sleeper mods to suspension & tyres. Was a good bike, though mebbe doesn't fit in the "proper bike" category.

That's a rarity-it's an H1F isn't it? I had the misfortune of trying to ride one once. Better than the H1C with drum front brake though.

Never had the Kwak triple ,but I did have one of these.Was quite quick about the 110 mark ,and they fit bigger tyres to mopeds nowadays.

Totally different. Mine was a V3 2-stroke.

What's the consensus on triump bikes these days?
There's always been something in me that want's a bit of british - and IMVHO some of the current line are beautiful. But too out of touch to know whether they're any good any more.

Hi Matt
Motorbikes are VERY popular in Arizona, due to the weather, and so is the Triumph brand. All the reports I have read rate them very highly. Not sure where they are made but pretty sure it is not in Britain. The new company purchased the rights to the model names, colours, tank badges and believe it or not the shape of the silencers as I remember.
Also believe it or not you do not have to wear a crash helmet. But that is another story.

Not at all bad. A mate has had a Triumph Thunderbird for several years - not my cup of tea either style or performance wise, but well engineered and very good build quality, and nice to ride. A former work colleague had a Daytona 955? (IIRC) and really rated it - relatively tame, but again well put together and more than enough power and handling for the road.

Of course, if you want British you could get a proper 'British' bike :

Just read wikipaedia on em. Apparently they opened a thailand factory in 03.
I still want to believe they're made in good old blighty. Mebbe I'm being hopelessly patriotic.

new triumphs are very good amd can compete with the best,
not quite as good as some of the better jap stuff but not far off .
I would have one if it was the model I wanted .
Havin said that much of the parts are sourced from outside like electrics and fuel systems and carbs , and brakes etc etc but thats the same with evrything these days and for the better I think

Unless production has moved recently the bulk of the bikes are made, or assembled at Hinkley . If there had been any changes it would have been headlines in MCN . I expect the factory abroad makes iether one model or parts .
If you want to buy a bike they will give a tour of the factory like ribcraft do

It doesn't say anything on Wikipedia about closing the Hinckley plant, just that they have opened a Thailand plant. I would suspect that the Thai plant is producing bikes for the Asian market, whilst the UK produces bikes for Europe and possibly the US.
