Re rust I have a Delta HF turbo that has been disintegrating for the last 3 years I need to do something about...like scrap

I am surrised that considering how bad they are at rusting and how good they are at motoring that nobody makes a kit car based on a Delta. C'mon Codders tell me thay do make an old man happy!

I remember those. The most off putting thing was the name Fulvia. Sounded like a vaginal deoderant.

Nothing wrong with a 75 - still have mine!!! When that Alfa SZ first came out I thought it was hideous but it has grown on me a lot since then - I think it was just way ahead of it's time which reminds me....

Anyone remember the Talbot Matra Rancho? Probably the World's first "softroader". Eat your heart out Rav 4!!!

It was way ahead of it's time but sadly not even a 4x4 - then again how many people who own such vehicles ever need it?

Had a friend with one. Bit darker orange than that. Good looking vehicle for its day.

Heres a better looking one.

Sorry I lied had 2 minis and 2 alfsuds .

wish I still had my last golf the last of the Mark 1 campaign model with the P slot alloys .
also had a tuned scirocco with full bilstien suspension it would get both needles on the stop peaking at about 130 mph .

I bought an RZ a few years ago, in a moment of madness from the maserati dealer in Lyndhust on the way home from the boat jumble. it was great to drive, but not the greatest build quality. Road holding was superb, and the engine had a lovely sound to it. Wife hated it, so i sold it to a pal who has cherished it for the last 8 years!

That would aptly describe nearly all 80's cars.

And for those that love BMW's I remember the 2002. An ugly mother. In fact looks very much like an Austin.

quote biggles "That would aptly describe nearly all 80's cars."

quite true actually , exept for the german offerings most fell apart . But that rancho was probably worse than the crapest scoda of that time . I used to work as a mechanic in a "pugshit talbot stealers" at the time and it was the joke car amongst the mechanics .
we used to drive them into the workshop and just rev them at the door , thay would rattle like hell and all the other guys used to fall about laughing . Thay also made the Matra Simca Bagheera if memory serves correct , again with the rattling simca engine , that was nearly as bad but did kind of look the part .
How i used to hate working on that french junk. It was as if they looked for ways to make things difficult .

And French cars haven't changed ?

Everyone seems to copy them nowadays in the difficulty stakes but the French still seem masters of awkwardness. And the repair costs that are associated with that awkwardness.

Not quite that exclusive as Nautibouy and his £200 + front light bulb change on his Land Rover recently.

All new cars are going that way. With the new Astra if you blow a headlight bulb it's no good just changing it - still won't work - you have to have the computer "reset" by the dealer!!! I don't know why the EU are allowing such blatant rip offs to happen.

Oh,you mean disconnecting the battery for a min. and then reconnecting.
Stop blaming the EU for everthing. I agree it sucks. but the British public supported it so "you make your bed and lie in it". Blow up the Chunnel, separated from the EU and go back to being a free trading nation. As you can see I saw the writing on the wall 25 years ago. What a shame for a once proud Nation that has turned into a bunch of whiners with no sense of personal responsibilty.
Rant over.

ahh but seeing as how all this was about FORGOTTON cars from the 70/80's the MK1 can not be coverd... as you can't forget this, can you?

They are truly amassing wee cars, and I think that is a theme that is going on in this thread all the cars we have enjoyed in the past have been light and simple and that is something missing from nearly all of today's cars the new Golf GTI is almost twice the weight of the old MK1.
