Get a bike, look ahead and think. They're more fun in the summer and there's nothing to say that a bigger bike puts you in more danger. They have better tyres, brakes and you have more control of your speed as you don't tend to want to carry momentum. They don't feel as disposable and hence you ride accordingly.
Get a car by all means and tow the bike to green lanes. And why on earth would you be setting your sights on a Land Rover?
Also sliding on your arse in your leathers is nothing compared to thinking that you've stopped sliding enough to try and get up and walk at 30mph!!!! That ends up hurting.

Hah! +1 for that. Did that when I binned my ZX6R on a track day at Cadwell. That was an expensive afternoon.

Touch wood I never dropped a bike on the open road. There's an awful lot of stuff to hit.

Prolly bloody diesel. You'd think with it being so expensive these days there'd be less all over the effing road.

They don't put enough grit in the mix these days, to much would cause a hazard in itself though, as for what vehicle you want there's loads to choose, i'd find out which one you'll get best insure deal with, there's many smaller cars well capable of pulling a rib, and cheaper to run all round until you build yer no-claims.
