Land rover series 111 fuel problem

Advice please, its been standing 5 months started it last week almost first time ran ok but not quite as smooth as it did when i parked it up.Now several days later ran for several minutes cut out .No fuel to carb so put 10 litres in turned it over still no fuel up to carb.tried to suck it up using a fuel boat hose with the bulb type hand pump on didnt work but could hear air sucking in from the fuel pump.I then saw it had a lever on it so pushed up and down i could feel it working but still no fuel coming to carb .there is a fuel bowl/filter before the pump never had it apart though it it easy.do i need any parts is this a common problem .thanks in advance for any comments.Peter
