In price as well as in everything else!

I agree, I drove the two that Autocar brought down here in October last year. They were fantastic on the road and really surprised me off it, though I would not have bought either vehicle after they had finished! Having said not all that long ago that I would probably never buy another Freelander after six months with a Td4, I was all ready to seriously think about replacing my Discovery 2 with one, and then I saw the price...

It was a design rejected by GM because they had problems with it they couldn't cure. Rover fixed it and turned it into the awesome creation it became.

And talking of Rover they were the first ever to put a gas turbine in a car!!!

It was equally crap with previous engines... and as for BL, I thought we were talking about cars... not dinkys,,,,

Sorry if I offend..... God it was real crap....

Incidently the FL2 is built on the same BIW line as the jag x type (underbody),and remember from Austin/BL came the mini, wasnt that enough....?, transverse engine and all, changed the way cars are built
What is Ireland good at potatoes and Del....? cars oh and dancing, drinking , building roads(well causing traffic jams) living in caravans and.... (actually it sounds quite nice, may book a week or two in the summer)

The Range Rover had the V8 engine from the start so wouldn't say it had shit engines!!! It also had all round coil springs and disk brakes - as early as 1970 - way ahead of the Japs - some of them STILL use leaf springs - as do the Yanks!!!

Wouldn't describe any of the Lotus range as crap either - or Bentley!!!

This will make you sit up Codders....

In 1995 I had a 4 door Range- with the VM engine- which I am proud to say
- managed to blow up. I looked around for a replacement and was offered a straight 6 Toyota 4.2 Landcruiser with an automatic box. This fitted exactly in the Range-even the engine supports were exactly in line. The only thing that had to be adapted was the prop shaft. As regards the handbrake ( Rangy has a drum brake behind the transmission) - we were able to get away with the MOT as saying that the handbrake was in fact the "P" position on the automatic

SO WHO COPIED WHAT???????

The japanese copied a lot of European stuff - but improved the copy.
This engine went on to do some 400.000 kms without being opened.

This to be published shortly in my memoirs - Currently stuck for a suitable title.

Jonathan
