Is it? I thought I remembered it being publicised when they first came out. Maybe it was rubbish or they changed the design.

No design change mine's one of the early one's, it looks a bit dramatic because you remove the front grill and the relevant headlight but they're only held in with 8 sprung clips, 5 minutes really is enough time.

I think was the "Disco 2 facelift" ("Disco 2 and a half"). We have one and the headlights have to come out the front - even more of a pain because it has the headlight protection grilles and A-bar fitted. I went mad when I first realised, but have it down to a fine art now.

(It does have the remote key-fob air suspension at the rear though, and I'd agree it is good for not getting wet on the slipway - I wouldn't want to look a weed by lowering it to hitch-up though...)

Yup No tools req'd unless you use a leatherman or such like to undo the b4stard outside spring clip, apart from that it's a piece of pi55

Statistics show that injuries/deaths from either being in or being hit by a Land Rover Defender or the earlier versions are almost nil.
There was one guy who left the road and tragically some of his family were killed a couple of years ago, however his Land Rover was badly modified (by himself) with a lift kit etc and was unsafe.

I think one of the reasons for the statistics above may be that Defenders are rarely driven badly or at high speed by "boy racers" but that would be just my guess and not based on factual data.

Having owned & driven Defenders for the last fifteen years one of the possible reasons for the lack of serious accidents could be that they're scary to go fast in !!! Vague steering similar to driving a boat & crap brakes plus the need to build up speed to overtake (usually requiring a plan) mean that driving one is a noisy and uncomfortable experience ruling out any concept of boy-racer.
On the plus side I wouldn't want anything else for work !!!

If it has damaged the steering box, the question is how? I assume you have checked the wheel. hub. swivel steering rods etc? If the bumper has taken a hefty wallop on the end, it is strong enough to bend the chassis dumb irons that the steering box is bolted to. Worth giving it all a very thorough check.. Not intending to teach Grandma to suck eggs here..
