Also the payload is 1 tonne so is classed as a commercial vehicle and the VAT is reclaimable.

Actual towing capacity is 3.5 tonnes with max train weight of 6050kg without a tacho.

Side facing seats have now gone. EEC directives!!!! The seats are now forward facing. The engine will be the new 2.5lt Ford Dura Tech engine and yes it has aircon. We are still awaiting ours to turn up.

LR is part of Uncle Henry's empire so is of course run by accountants Jono is absolutely right there. That's the bad thing about Ford taking over LR. The good thing is bringing small things like process repeatability and quality tools to a manufacturing operation that lived in the dark ages.

Jono, I'll forward you via email or pm, the Honda vs Ford guide to making a baked potato. It'll raise a smile I'm sure. In the meantime I'll quietly mention that as part of the cost down activities post the Ford aquisition of LR the galvanised cappings were first against the wall and, well, I must confess to having had something to do with that.......... (Although I'm not a Bean Counter I hasten to add!)

Sorry but having sat on them I can assure you that they are side facing! (and were in all the models they had there).

If they were side facing then it wasn't the new defender. You were probably in anything upto a 2006MY vehical. Working for Landrover Experience, we tend to get the lowdown on new models before the general public.

All the pics of the new one have forward facing seats - flipping stupid - can't pack enough people in any more - many 110s are used for site transport etc.

That'll be down to your favorite people in Belgium then

Just to throw summat different in to it, If any of you get to have a test drive in the new Range Rover TDV8 then take it. That is one seriously quick diesel engine

The price and the spec on the Santana is very good.
Shame they don't do a copy of the 90 as yet!

Will have to see if I can arrange a test drive locally.
Have mailed them and awaiting a reply.

Regards

Don't drive a Defender then a Sultana.. drive a good series 111 first. I'm not knocking the Sultana.. but it is far more of a progression from earlier Solihull offerings than a direct comparison with new defenders in terms of ride and...err.. handling

My partner in crime has the one in the photo and he likes it.. he won't buy another new LR, simply because they, as a company, don't address "known issues" whilst Santana seem to..so far!

Cheers Jono.

Have driven everything from a series IIa up over the years.
In fact a series IIa was the first thing I drove at the tender age of 14!!
Off road of course
My fav has to be the 101 forward control, I like things quirky!

On the website they seem to have addressed some of the LR issues so really want to give one a go to see if they actually do deal with the issues they say they have.

Have been a great LR fan for most of my life and am looking for a 90 but is the Santana is better then I may go for the 110.
Even more so as I can get the Santana, with all the toys for he price of a 90.
With the loss of the side facing seats this means the 90 will only seat 4 now and not 6, the 110 7 and not 9.

The Santana seems to be getting some great feedback.

Regards

Just one thing more to be wary of... residual values. You might want to do some checking on these..
