Any good/bad info on the above as a tow vehicle?

Had a client who used to tow horse boxes with one. He loved it. Not the most refined , but did the job.

What age? What speed box? I've run a Santa fe auto for a while now. Not bmw Audi/Volvo refinement...but not the cost either. :-)

2005 with an Auto box. Doesn't mention how many gears. But seems like they're selling cheap ATM, I guess it's MaxTax band?

I 'think' they may have only had a four speed auto as they were never really designed to go 'quick'.

I'd assume cheap as chips now as the depreciation on any Hyundai is huge. In my eyes quite old styling and they were rare..so not sure if spares would be an issue.

However they 'might' share Kia and Santa fe parts....but I'd question myself before committing to that.

Not sure there were ever enough about to gauge reliability or problems. If like the first Santa fe's ...then fairly simple technology.

Yep fairly sure the tax will be daft. Had the 2.7 v6 petrol and that was thirsty...but petrol.

I'm not worrying about details yet. I was just casually browsing eBay for Tow car options as my Trooper needs a little money spent on her this year and was wondering if that money would be better spent on something else.

I'm not really in to Landys and have been scared off of some of the Japanese models due to reliability problems with clutches etc. My Favorite is the Toyota Landcruiser Amazon 4.2 but I find it difficult justifying spending over £6000 for a decent 20 year old 4x4 with 200,000 miles on the clock.

The Terracan just seems good value money for what you get. A bit hi-tech for me, but I have no brand loyalty and was just wondering if these cars had any know problems that I should know about.

Ive owned 2 shogun's and used a Terracan. These vehicles come no where near the Grand Cherokee in terms of all the features and priorities you would look for in a 4x4.
Ive owned my 9 year old Jeep for 4 years, and have toured north-west europe pulling a caravan with kids and equipment, and now use it for my RIB mainly. servicing/maintenance/power+torque/mpg/comfort/space, it ticks all the box's.... not to mention all the bells and whistles as extras you could ever wish for.
Ive pulled one or two chelsea tractors from the sticky stuff also. You get a hell of a lot of car for reasonable money (40k new), honestly I would buy another good used one in a heart beat.

In Germany there are much Terracans on the Road.
Try to get the Faceliftmodell with 163 HP, the 150 HP had often Problems with the Injectors. Automatic is made for the V6 not realy suitable for the Diesel, reacts very nervous. At all a nice car!

I'm obv. biased (search posts etc.... we have three WJs) but def worth consideration Andy... (although not necessarily overland spec IMO ...some have lower suspension).

To be honest I have never looked at the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Never liked the styling of them, but I'll take a look.

Refined, smooth, reliable Mercedes Diesel engine. Built in Austria for the European market.With quadra-drive 4x4 technology, the Grand Cherokee is a serious no none sense vehicle.
Do your homework, check out the specs and used car prices.

I decided to keep the Monterey and spend some money on her.

I did some research on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and very nearly bought a 2.7 CRD earlier in the week.

Don't know what stopped me, but to be fair to the Monterey she's been really reliable and has never let me down. Seeing a few 2001-2005 Cherokee's in eBay for spares or repairs didn't help the search process.

Not a huge tow weight on them, but a good truck indeed. Manuals come in the much cheaper tax bracket.

arguably that's why we need 3.... At least two are working at any one time

That said, it's all relative.... They are still more reliable than any if my Solihull vehicles ever were (that's not to say I don't still occasionally find myself looking at them for sale

I agree that it's sometimes 'better the devil you know' .... If the Monterey is behaving, why change
