I love the sentiment Sparticus....but
1) I have no mechanical ability - whenever I try I always end up stripping threads / burring / shearing stuff making it worse
2) It's not the simple act of bolting the thing on, it's dismantling the bits around it to get to it in a way where they all go back in the same place in the same order without breaking anything.
3) I need the car for work so can't afford to have it off the road for any length of time.
4) it assumes I can easily find a similar X-Trail in a local breakers yard.
Doing all these things might be more expensive in time & money.
It does make me wonder however if my local garage could source a recon / 2nd hand part.......I'll have a chat in the morning and a nose round the scrap yard - maybe I can procure the part fro the friendly spanner jockeys Thanks for the thought
