Gonna cut the L200 loose after nearly 7 years of trouble free motoring.

Anyone have any experience of the latest HL Invinci?

I'd take a long look the New Ford Ranger, a few of the Navara boys are moving over to them

I had a quick look, that'll do.

This Mk7 has only been out for a bit, I need to know that it doesn't eat clutches etc. like the other jap offering.

Two of my friends up here have a Ranger and a Hilux, the Hilux is a lovely looking bit of kit but it's owner (and avid Toyota fan) accepts that the Ranger is the better drive

Admittedly they both have the older (07) versions

I bought a new P100 1800TD in '89, that blew-up at 33k. No more Fords.

I have an 11 plate Invincible, I love it.

Ive towed everything from Quads to Argocats to mini diggers with it and it soldiers on without a bother.

It does like a drink when towing! Its in for its 20k service this week.

I took it down to the Formula 1 in Silverstone last July and I was as fresh when I came out of it as I was when I got in to it.

The only problem I have come across (albeit not with mine but other owners) is the diesel light comes on on the dash indicating water in the diesel, however it tells lies, it is waaaay too sensitive and picks up the tiniest little bit of condensation in the fuel. Its an easy remedy to turn the light off, turn IGN off, disconnect plug the turn IGN back on and reconnect said plug...job sorted.

Being a deerstalker my Hilux gets a tough life off the road, Ive put on a set of BFG Mud Terrains and it has affected the motorway handling slightly but its a small price to pay.

I hope some of the above is of some help, go on, buy one... you know you want to!

What sort of MPG are you getting during general use not towing?

Round the Estate Im looking at around 24 but alot of that is 2nd 3rd gear stuff, in and out of fields and up forestry track ect.

On a run like the one to Silverstone it was 31, that was setting the cruise at 70ish on the motorway.

I was tempted to put a tuning box on it to alter the torque curve giving more torque lower in the rev range but I dont pay for my diesel so I feel it would be a waste of MY money.

I've got a 2012 Model Hilux Invincible, though I do sell them, and all other makes of Pick Up's for a living. Was at the dealer launch of the New Ford Ranger at Knockhill last month, it's nice, but it's not as good as a Hilux and availability and price is an issue. The Ranger 2.5 150 Auto I was driving broke down and the Ranger 3.0 Wildtrak got stuck on the 4x4 course, they then discovered it has no front towing point! Pulled out by another Ranger, with the shackle round the front strut, this broke and the shakle went through the radiator of the rescue Ranger. I got out and walked back to my Hilux and went home at that point.

Currently, your looking at around May for a 2012 Model Hilux Invincible Auto, there is a price increase on 1st of April and anything ordered prior to then needs to be registered before the 30th of June to avoid the increase (on the Invincible, this is an increase of 3.5%)

I'd be happy to quote you on a new model, don't worry about reliability, I sell 400+ Hilux a year and have done every year for the past 5 years, not had a single problem and most of my customers use them for what they are designed for.

My Hilux is an Auto with the power upgrade (200bhp) and I get 34mpg average and this drops to around 31 - 32 when towing the rhib (Osprey Eagle with 125 Optimax, few sets of diving gear and a rather beefy twin axle trailer)

My pal has one, we were out on a shoot one day and I jumped in his pickup to shift it.... it screamed of cheapness, the dash was VERY plastic looking in a cheap way, the doors were tinny and light and the seats were made from granite.

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

He did say it went like a scalded cat and the MPG was good.

The VW is okay, as a car, not so good when towing due to a very peaky torque curve. Not cheap, long waiting list, due to most being built for LHD market and VW not giving any fleet support on them, so the big players in the pick up market are not buying them. I've driven it, it's not great, they should have put a bigger engine in it.

As you have the Euro 4 engine, there are a few people doing good chips for them, I used Diesel Tuning for around 300+ chips, work well, take power up to 210bhp and 420Nm of torque, you get around 4 to 5 mpg extra too. They don't have a Euro 5 chip yet, so I used the Toyota one, but will switch back soon as they have a Euro 5 chip

Just to carry on with more bollox, the guy with the 07 Hilux had a major problem with either injectors or injector seals (can't remember exactly) it was an expensive repair of a known issue, to be fair to Toyota they did contribute even though it was outside of warranty, I think the issue has gone on the newer model.
