The only thing that annoys me about this article is this

"Six security staff, two police cars and a helicopter were scrambled to arrest the 18-year-old for drink-driving at 1am. A second student escaped from the car at Bristol University’s Wills Hall."

What the hell did they send the Police helicopter for? Thats another £10,000 of tax payers money down the drain!!!

Other than that it sounded like quite a jolly wheeze - he obviously got what he deserved - doubt he will do it again. And he wasn't on public roads either!!!

its still illegal to be in charge of a motor vehicle whilst under the influence in ANY public area - which I assume the univesity campus is even if its not an adopted road. this clearly seems to be someone who wasn't responsible enough to own or drive a car - nor probably to drink alcohol or be studying at our expense.

doubt he will learn his lesson at all - mummy and daddy will pay his fine; he doesn't really need to drive so loosing his license for a year won't hurt - and even if the university does kick him out (and they quite possibly wont for fear of missing out on fees) he doesn't really sound like he is there to learn.

maybe I am just bitter because mummy and daddy didn't buy me even a clapt out 2nd hand mini!

cod appeared to be condoning his behaviour. the problem is a few idiots like this make governments introduce restictions which affect people who are just young and enjoying themselves rather than just stupid.

I attended a university which had a large agricultural college attached to it. We didn't generally drive cars down steps, but we did take a cow into a womens' residence one night in an elevator. Once a cow has been in an elevator, it is very difficult to get it in a second time.

Apparently Bossy made quite an impression on the 6th floor!

but I learned to drive in one and I bought my own

And a finer tool to teach you handling at a young age ,.. you couldnt find

I had a clapped out MINI as my first car two, cost me £350!
Pol is right though, the Road traffic act applies to even private roads connected to the main road system, somebody found that out recently on their own personal private road round here not long ago!

Yep, I live at the end of a Private road (Its not what it sounds like, I ain't posh or nuffin) and because I'm at the end my deeds cover the whole length of the road itself. I had to sign agreements to give my neighbours access over 'My Land' to get to their houses, which was fun at the conveyancing solicitors. I took to 'Testing' my motorbike up the road after working on it, only to be reminded of the above by one of my neighbours, (one of those police officers who has risen to a rank where he has to where a uniform again)
