Had a disco 2000 td5 for about 4 years..... Excellent vehicle, don't know the rib is on the back. Luckily I got a great one which is mechanically sound.

Really comfortable drive as well (ES premium) with all te toys you could think of.

Only gripe is 25 mpg

Good taste, Mr P, good taste.....

2.5 turbo, 200+ bhp, plenty of grip, tow's for fun and when not towing, it's the definition of a wolf in sheep's clothing....
Part costs are hooooooorendous! Cheaper running an E-Class frigate!

Have a 2001 TD5 90 since new. Now has 231k miles on clock. Serviced each 10k miles. Great for pulling the rig and for popping over to the UK. Have had new fuel pump, new starter motor and new head at about 100k. Otherwise excellent. Have hotted it and thrashed it. How long will it last ? Service history is so important.

Did have a Forester about the year 2000. Not good at pulling the rig up a steep slip. Should have had one with the low range gear box.
That's my experience.

Def 90 - 1k miles last week

Just back from touring Wales top to bottom with tent etc, 2 x golf clubs and labrador, to and from Sussex, over 1k miles done, offroad many times and found v comfortable and reliable - great machine, just bit basic and turning circle about the same as a limo - only got a rib week ago, on a share basis, but am sure will pull great as have used other trailers plenty of times - would have got a Freelander2 for the comfort if found one with tow bar, but kids wanted a rattling defender instead.

Took this from somerset to Campbeltown and back earlier in the year.

Never missed a beat, towed very happy up the motorway, nicely at 60 (ish), and not too bad on fuel either, considering towing a 2 tonne lump, and landy stuffed full.

Was well loaded with the boat and animals, and all other stuff, and only had to fill up once in Penrith. I google says it is 540 miles, and 1 fill up enroute sees me using 140 litres of fuel (30 gall) so is 18mpg.

Took about 11 hours with a few stops on the way, and about 10 on the way back.

A little noisy, but I have got used to it, so does not really bother me.

Wouldnt be without it really.
